    Hello Omega Fam,

I have a recently acquired Seamaster 2220.80. It has the omega co-axial escapement version c. If I manually wind the watch, it runs for around two days and keeps fantastic time (-1 second a day). However, I’ve noticed that it will cease. At first I thought it had to do with the C version of the co-axial escapement since it’s been known to cease, but considering it runs great for almost two days when fully wound by hand, I think there may be something wrong with its automatic winding? I was planning to bring it to service at omega, but I was hoping to kick it down the road a couple of years since it was serviced 2 years ago. Any thoughts on what it could be? I did notice that once it ceases, if I tap it with my fingers it’ll give the movement a jolt for 10 seconds. Any fixes? Or do I need to bite the bullet and give it a full service.

You got a 2-year service warranty, have you looked into that?

I don’t believe it was serviced by omega. I bought this second hand, so who knows if the seller was honest about service history. I guess I’m trying to fish at whether or not I’m missing something obvious.

Well, yes, you are. You can't do anything on the inside that will improve things. :D

    Send it for service.

Haha. Yes! Maybe I should say it this way something simple that may not require a full service through omega that a local watch maker could take on.

You are hoping we can diagnose what the problem might be, and a possible solution? We’re good, but not that good!

Let's say this. You bought it not knowing the service history and now it's not functioning properly.

Why wouldn't you get a complete service?

Factory is a possibility for this one, and I had a watch serviced at Nesbit's and they did a good job.

Do keep in mind that the 2500 calibre has a 48hrs power reserve. So if the watch is wound fully but remains at rest, naturally it would stop in 2 days as how you'd mentioned. Over the two days, were you wearing it for at least a few hours a day or was it at rest throughout those two days?

By the way I have the 2220.80 myself, also with the 2500C, so far so good in the 8 years I've had it.

Great question. Yes, I was wearing it all day other than going to bed. In one case, I was even hiking, so I’m certain it should have been charged by the movement of my wrist. It makes me wonder if there is a rotor issue. Thoughts?

No one is going to be able to exactly pinpoint the problem remotely on a forum.

Unclear if the test you did just manually winding it, you we wearing the watch or not. If you were, then it's not a test that is going to tell you anything. So if you haven't done so, wind the watch fully using just the crown, set the time, lay it dial up, and monitor how long it runs. If it runs for the full expected power reserve, then you know the issue is in the automatic winding, and not the base movement.

In the end though, it's not going to fix itself, so you will likely need a full service regardless.

    Cheers, Al

Oh and because you took the back off, be aware that you can no longer depend on the water fastness until it is pressure tested. It might be fine, or it might fog up the next time it rains.

Same boat. I recently purchased a similar model via eBay from a seller on the “good list”. The watch looks great, but after just a week it would stop and has finally come to a halt, occasionally starting and then stopping. I sent to Omega for a full service. Had I factored in the cost of the full service I would be close to the cost of a new 42mm SMP on the grey. But, I prefer this reference to the new ones. Sorry to hear that. I had the black version before this blue and loved it. It’s a rare bird! If you don’t mind me asking, ballpark what did Omega charge you? I think their website says service $550, but I was wondering if that is just a recommendation to AD’s?
