Seamaster 176.007 in the bay - just wondering

Hi,

Currently a 176.007 is active in the bay getting a lot of bidder traffic.
Anyone got a clue what might be positively Special with this Watch justifying the bids? I do see a not existing Service history, no proper bracelet, all chrono hands are wrong, and dial seems to have undergone a considerable amount of repaint actions (at least 12 hour subdial including numbers, 24h blue ring, seamaster writing).

The normal time keeping hands are also wrong - I see nothing special here and would personally avoid the watch…

Yes, you‘re right … should be black in the Center … didn’t spot this over all the other issues

Already overpriced by a factor of 3. Not sure why there are bidders but avoid this one.

The dial has been completely repainted - text, logo, numerals - everything is completely wack. The hands are an assortment of mismatched stuff, I think the chrono seconds hand is non-Omega, or maybe repainted creatively. The movement is wrong. It has a replacement rotor but notice there is a serial number on the bridge. Some of the very earliest examples of 1040s I've seen had the serial on the bridge but I'd bet this is a cal. 1041 with a service rotor.

I think the movement as such could be a genuine 1040 (except the Service rotor).
I do own a EoA-confirmed 176.001 1040-movement with a serial on Bridge from 1973, see my earlier Posts. So could also well be that they have been mounted in the „transitional“ 001/007.

chrono minute hand most likely taken from 176.012 (as well as the normal minute and hour), and chrono second 176.010 ?

but anyway: avoid!

Well there is one zero-feedback bidder, but even if he is a shill, that's not enough to explain the price.

D'oh you're right! I meant chrono seconds hand, I've edited my previous post. I think it's been painted to look like a 176.010 hand but the black paint is further out from the center post than is typical on a 176.010.

I agree it is possible, but with all the other mix'n'match parts I'd still guess the movement and watch aren't original to each other. I've seen at least five 1041 movements incorrectly installed in a 1040 case for every 1040 with a serial on the bridge.

the 24hr indicator arrow in the 9 0'clock subdial should be red for this model

From my experience, early production years have an orange (often faded) triangle, later years a red one (for blue dials).

I have also seen pure white triangles in very early ones (particularly in 176.001) where I believe they are genuine, but not 100% sure.
