Seamaster 166.024 1969 opinion?

Seen a vintage 1969 166.024 Seamaster for sale. 565 movement, looks in a pretty good condition. An absolutely lovely watch. Dial looks a bit too perfect for this age, redial perhaps?. He advised the dial is original and said the signed crystal on the watch is very rare.

Although caseback states 165.024 the seller said "the case back has been restamped. Omega did this a lot especially with the 165. and 166. models as they used the same cases so restamping meant they could use the same parts for both."
Just wondering if any specialists knows any more info on that.
Any advice on it and thoughts on value?

Thanks

"That particular signed crystal is very rare as they didn't provide them as service parts. My watchmaker who is a big collector sold one recently for over 拢300."

Do you not think that's the case?. Pardon the pun. It does to me look like the crystal has an omega symbol in the very centre, which I thought was on the originals.

They stopped doing them down the line.

Redial or relume but what do you think of it overall, still worth it?

Cheers

I don't think so, look at the different done lines here:

That's no Omega standard

Minty sides and the caseback doesn't match at all

IMO the case sides have been refinished.

IIRC, there was something odd about the listing for this watch. The original listing was ended early. Then a new listing gave a different description/history of the watch and the auction went to completion. I can't recall the details, but I remember that it made me a bit nervous.

Ended early as it was listed as a 165.024, seller realised the 165 was a no date and it was in fact a 166. Other than that the description was the same. As I said earlier regarding the restamping on the case back, apparently it was common with these models. Either that or its a date version case back.
The Auction went to completion like you said and the buyer didn't pay. Don't think the seller wanted to relist it again because of the hassle.

My opinion

green: polished red : grinded

The only polished surface is the top of the lug, so the middle arrow. The left green arrow is a brushed finish, and so is the case side.

Given the condition of the rest of the watch, the case sides have been refinished.

Polished/refinished/stamped or not it is overpriced at your guy's listed offer.

You reckon the 4k is overpriced yeah?. I still thought if all genuine it would have been worth that, polished or not. But I'm no expert

Many questions from the pictures.

and you asked for opinions

if you go to sell, questions remain, and your market will be newbies with uncritical eyes.

Now, if you like it and plan to keep forever, then it is a good price.

OK, maybe that was it. For some reason I thought I recalled him saying something different originally about where he bought the watch, but maybe I'm thinking of a different listing.

It's possible, I seen the previous listing too before it was relisted and asked the question why he relisted. When I checked both he did change the reference number. I didn't notice the thing about where he bought it, it's possible. I thought he said he bought it from his watchmaker
