Hi All,

A friend of mine has enlisted me to help her restore a Seamaster 165.010 she recently received from her father. Her first question was it fake (since her dad got in in Hong Kong). I assured her it wasn’t fake and likely not a franken watch or redial. To my eye, some service along the way replaced the crystal and crown. It even has a nice 1035 no. 13 folded, flat link bracelet.
Anyways, my ask to the group, am I correct in assessing the crystal and crown are replacements? Reason I say the crystal is is it’s unsigned. Crown, doesn’t look like other comparable models.
If the crown is incorrect, can someone provide me the part number I need to hunt down?
I was uncertain about the hands. I notice some examples have lume, some don’t.
Appreciate your opinions and expertise.
Oh, and don’t forget to let me know the market value, make me offers, and so on…ha! Just kidding.

Hands look correct with the no lume dial.
The crown is incorrect but the original scalloped crowns are no longer available so the ‘correct’ modern replacement won’t rectify this.

I got a message shortly after posting this indicating the correct crown is part number 42055. Is this correct?

I believe that’s the (partial) part number for the current replacement crown, but as I said, this won’t look like the ‘scalloped’ original.

AH! I understand what you're saying now. The replacement part doesn't have the scalloped knurls. Sorry it took you two times saying it for me to get it.

That should clean up quite nicely. Any level of remediation she might choose, as long as she keeps the dial, will get a decent timepiece.

Makes me wonder how someone beats up a case that badly? Based on the knocks by the crown area. I'm beating he managed to break the original crown off.

Thats a case that needs a little refinishing
