Hi Folks,

Edited to Add:

Shortly after I posted this, the listing was removed from sale with the note that "the item was lost or broken." Either a weird coincidence or something fishy going on. In any case, I'd still be happy to hear any commentary about the 2511.XX family in general or the quartz calibre 1538.

I've been thinking about picking up a quartz Seamaster to serve as a bit of a beater watch (though I'm pretty gentle even with my Timex, so that's somewhat relative). I stumbled across this pre-Aqua Tera model (ref 2511.83) for a good price (under $700), but the seller describes the crystal as "slighty loose." My guess is that the OEM crystal has been replaced with a generic that doesn't fit perfectly, but that's pure speculation.

I'm planning to send the watch to Omega for service as (a) my local watchmaker doesn't work on quartz pieces, and (b) I actually do want the reassurance of having the water resistance restored. Since I assume Omega will replace the crystal, the fact that it's not original doesn't bother me. I can't spot any signs of water damage, so I don't think the watch has suffered from its current crystal.

Does anyone see anything wrong with my plan? Are there other things I should watch out for? Anything to worry about with this family of Seamasters (2511.xx)?

Many thanks in advance for any advice, suggestions, and comments.
