As a baby boomer I was stoked to find, on YouTube, some old episodes of Sea Hunt starring my childhood hero Mike Nelson (Lloyd Bridges) saving the day. Of course watching them now I was immediately drawn to his dive watches. At first I thought he was wearing a Blancpain, then on another episode a Rolex Sub then an Oyster on an expanding bracelet. I figure he wore a two or three different watches - but all tool watches for the deep. Soooo...turns out he was wearing a USN issue Elgin BuShips UDT (picture below) in some episodes and a Rolex sub in others. In season three he is probably wearing a Rolex Oyster on an expanding bracelet. And then I came across this which helps close in on the watches but lacks specificity as to the Rolex model and the example he shows is certainly more recent. Sea Hunt Remembered: Mike's Watches So if you're out there reading this, Jeff, how about a wristy of your dad's Rolex Sub please.
Not sure, but I think Lloyd was diving with a U.S. Divers Royal Aqua Master, like this one I restored recently:
@niccoloy just discovered that Lloyd Bridges also liked Dive watches after the end of Sea Hunt. Here you can see a pic from 1971 and he is wearing a Enicar Diver, probably a 1000ft Aqua-lung model.
I also found this pic, but it’s in bad quality. Anyone has an idea? maybe Enicar too? They strongly advertised their Dive watches end of the 50s in the US. Nico
That’s correct, cause when it’s an Aqua-lung 1000ft, it’s not a Divette. Looks like there was a small batch of these watches, with different bezel (look at the teeth on the outside, compared to the notches of a Divette) and no ring. Should look like this: Best nico
Watching the video I had to laugh at how shiny his Elgin canteen replica was. or should I be breaking out the polishing compound?
