Scammer

Not sure where to put this

Tried to scam me with the 16610LN 2018 which was posted a few days ago using @sryukon account

used his genuine paypal address but now on hold due to fraud

I believe from the New York area

To add to the intrigue - seems he was on eBay using the same user name 'sryukon' but changed it on 4th March 2020 to 'redfish185' - looks like the person knew that user name was about to be 'burnt'.

Following the links to some old sales on Ebay, they seem to think he is in Goose Creek, South Carolina.

Would be interested to hear more about the scam - I ask because I didnt understand why sellers didnt like PayPal until this thread, https://omegaforums.net/threads/must-read-scammer-got-played.109568/, so interested to learn more about what to be on my guard for.

Ill try and give the short version

I saw the watch for sale a friend has been after one for a good price for ages rang him told him said get it if i can

checked out sryukon on the forum and other forums seemed a decent seller

pmed them went through the usual asking about the watch how he would ship etc etc

payment he asked for bitcoin or bank transfer I said no to both but could we use paypal which he reluctantly agreed to

payment was sent

looking at the listing i asked for the serial number on the card which i was sent sent a pic of the card with it blacked out asked again for the serial but got the other side with that side blacked out.

started to get suspicious so asked to cancel the transaction reply was money wasnt in their paypal yet and would get it soon as it was in the account which we all know is bullshit its instant

tried paypal but they were closed till the morning during the night paypal flagged my account with suspicious activity and restricted it

on the disputes part 3 flags were highlighted that some one had tried to put the money on 3 gift cards at NY airport and the money had come from me

spoke to paypal in the morning they agreed it was fraudulent and reversed the payment back to me

he must of took some money out as his account is now restricted and has been emailing me begging for me to return the money and can he pay me back a different way

tempted to reply yes and get his address to expose him even more

Interesting, thanks - I was actually looking at the watch he posted here and noticed it had been taken down.

It did surprise me that is was a scam given this guys Ebay reviews and long presence on this and other forums, at first I thought the account might have been hijacked by someone else, but the change of Ebay username is strange ........

Personally anyone who mentions Bitcoin as part of any discussion on payment should be automatically restricted, leaving aside the obvious issues with fraudulent use the thing is so volatile you wouldn't know what you were actually paying or receiving (depending on who took the risk) as it could move 10% between agreeing a price and transacting.

I dont think its the same guy as the English is pretty terrible in his email but the pm's were pretty good

Could very well be someone who has either a) hijacked this guys account; or b) has effectively stolen his identity as a seller (and is pretending to be him).

That would also explain why the 'proper' guy might change his Ebay username .........

I saw that listing as well. Sadly, when something looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Account takeovers are why i no longer use Friends & Family to pay for anything even if it DOES come from a friend or family member. :/
