The bank may NOT be at fault at all, however, the regulators will expect the bank to vigorously investigate and attempt to recover the funds for their customer.

You can store your passwords locally on your device and back up locally to your PC/MAC... nothing stored on external servers. 馃槣
Unless someone phishes your personal machine and gains access to that info. Also, creating crazy passwords is ok, but the more secure solution to creating passwords is to create long passwords. The longer the password, the more difficult it is to crack.

That really sucks, horror stories like this is one reason why it is always better to play it safe with online transactions and consider sucking up the Paypal fees and such.

At least now I know the scammers Bank is in Charlotte, North Carolina. I鈥檓 sure this will help with the bank situation and hopefully we will
both get some kind of solution.

If you're both in the US I imagine it should be fairly simple (not fast) to get your money back and have this dirt bag charged with crimes.

Bank of America鈥檚 main headquarters are in Charlotte, NC. I would think that any wire transfer will say it is coming from Charlotte.

It could have been sent to any one of several thousand BofA branches in the US or who knows how many more overseas.

Kind of like saying it is somewhere on Planet Earth.

Just a little update. The bank ended up refunding me the full amount. They said they were able to freeze his account and that he still had some funds in it. So all is good!. The man said I was lucky as rarely does it ever work out that way. Most scammers withdraw the money immediately. The part that was surprising to me is that he said they rarely ever go after the scammers especially if it鈥檚 not a big amount since it would cost them a lot of money to pursue someone legally. Just be careful when dealing with wires!.

While reading this thread and noting I was reading events from 9 months ago, I was really hoping by the end it would work out. So glad to hear that it worked out for you. Congratulations!

It might be useful to explain to everyone the steps you took to get this resolved. Did you have to file a police report? Why did the bank brush you off initially but then choose to freeze his account? Did you have to do anything or say anything specific to make them freeze the account? This info might help others.

Once again, congratulations!
