Scammed for $5000 for Omega Speedmaster watch

Hello,

I contacted the above member this morning regarding an Omega Speedmaster professional moonlhase watch he listed. He sent me photos and then I wired him the money($5000). Now the listing page has been deleted and the phone number doesnt work anymore and he stopped replying. No email replies either. We both have Bank of America accounts. I understand that the chances of me getting back my money back through a wire is near zero but was wondering what I can do. I filed a claim with the bank and they said they will try to do a reclaim and see what he has to say. I have the guys name and account info. How do I file police charges?. Who do I file charges with?. Any tips would be appreciated.

According to WatchRecon, that item was listed 7 hours ago. Surely, the wire hasn't gone through that quickly, has it? Any chances you can call the bank to stop the wire? Did you call that telephone number?

Bank of America to Bank of America transfers are instant as I have done it many times. The bank said that the funds were instantly sent and that it’s in his account already. The phone number does not work anymore. It did this morning.

Wow! 🙁

Perhaps one of the staff may be able to give you some background.

Seems very odd... he’s been a forum member since 2011 - hopefully there’s a logical explanation.

That’s what I thought too. That’s why I wired the money. I usually like to give people benefit of the doubt but when the page was deleted, the phone number stopped working and he stopped answering emails, I knew I got screwed.

Perhaps his account was compromised?

$5000 is quite a low price for that reference, sounds like it was too good to be true. Sorry this happened to you OP. 🙁

Excellent find!
Not really... it's from 2017 and he has other listings that are still up. The listings that were removed (OP's Speedy and 2 Royal Oaks) came from the same user account according to cached Google data. We need an admin to explain why they were removed.

I deleted the ads due to listing 3 watches at once. We are looking in to it.

I don't see how that rules out his account being compromised. Although I'm not sure why he would have fallen for a scam now after warning others months ago. It's also possible that only his OF account was hijacked, since WUS has had multiple security issues requiring users to change their password recently while OF has not to my knowledge.

All pure speculation at this point, of course...

I can’t get that link to open up on my phone.

Doesn't work for me on PC either, you probably have to be logged in to WUS.

I don't know about others, but I have a very bad habit of reusing my password on many different forums. If someone were to compromise one of my accounts, it's possible for that person to wait until things cooled down to rake havoc on my other forums. 😡

I need to get better disciplined on this.

All is not lost. Looks like the mods deleted the sales advert and it may be that he’s been busy for the past few hours so not responding.

You have his name and bank account details.

Yes, sorry. you have to be logged in first to see a user profile on WUS. I'll shoot him a PM and see if he responds here.
