All is not lost. Looks like the mods deleted the sales advert and it may be that he’s been busy for the past few hours so not responding.

You have his name and bank account details.

What can I do with his name and account number?. Not really sure where to go from here.

I don't know about others, but I have a very bad habit of reusing my password on many different forums. If someone were to compromise one of my accounts, it's possible for that person to wait until things cooled down to rake havoc on my other forums. 😡

I need to get better disciplined on this.
In my case I would be expected to re-learn about 40 passwords.

Yes, sorry. you have to be logged in first to see a user profile on WUS. I'll shoot him a PM and see if he responds here.

Thank you!

Here’s a timely reminder to everyone out there to consider using a password manager like 1Password so you can set strong, unique passwords for each of your online accounts...

The most common way someone gets “hacked” is when a data breach occurs on one of the many random websites you signed up for... say some sports blog... the hacker takes the logins and passwords that they stole from that low-security website’s database and sells them on the dark web.

The purchasers of said credentials systematically tests them against other common websites... yahoo, gmail, iCloud, Amazon, EBay, etc.

If you’re one of the 95%+ of people who use the same login and same password for every single one of their online accounts, you’re now hacked... it wasn’t your gmail that was compromised... it was your crappy password management that did you in, and, sadly, it’s your fault.

Using a password manager, while open potential certain pitfalls as well, most certainly reduces your risk of the fraud described above and makes you a much more difficult target to fraudsters.

I know Mike personally, and it seems like his account may be in deep trouble. He doesn’t even own that Speedmaster, and I’ve dealt with him plenty of times and met him along with @dougiedude at numerous get-togethers.

If his account were compromised, wouldn't the wire have gone to the hijacker? OP, maybe log a formal issue with your bank and possibly a police report?

If the account is in US, there may be recourse . If it's in another country, probably not.

Yes, I called the bank and they said since it’s a wire, they can’t really do anything. They said they would look into and file a reclaim and ask the seller to send the money back. He’s in the US too. They said it would take 10-45 days. I’m not that hopeful to be honest. I’m not sure who to file a claim with. I have his name and account number and the bank won’t tell me any other info.

I would highly recommend to keep a close eye on this site:
https://haveibeenpwned.com

Even signup for alerts when a breach is reported to have your email in it.

Otherwise passwords managers are great. I would however never put my email password in it.

I saw a scam like this recently played out on a family member.

Through an online dating site, a grifter befriends a man posing as an attractive woman. Once the grifter has the confidence of the man, she convinces him to give her access to a shared account for some expenses and put a little money in it. They’re going to be “together” one day soon and she needs help.

The grifter then hustles people online ( like fake watch sales ) and visits bank branches quietly withdrawing the cash from the sales.

The sucker who owns the bank account isn’t even aware of the transgression until the money is gone, that his “girlfriend” is really someone who just used him.

From what we learned hundreds of men have fallen victim to this.

Log it with your local police station.

You’re the victim of a fraud like any other fraud.

That really sucks to hear – scammer burned one of the most legitimate, nicest account owners on this, or any other forum.

Time to publicly post the information of who you sent the funds to, so this thread could come up in search engines.
