It's called a "Chrono Quartz" on the website. I'm no expert, but have never seen anything like it before. Thought I'd share for your interest.
Just read up on it. Amazing. How much were they asking? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omega_Chrono-Quartz
I remember seeing ads for that when it came out. Digital and analog? C'mon man NO ONE wants a watch with hands!
Jesus... Is it called the Albatross because of the guilt of spending that kind of money on something so fugly?
I had a watch like that. It's more a curiosity than a watch and definitely it's needed a lot of courage to use it as a daily wearer. That thing it's huge... The watch on pictures it seem don't having one of the display's working so i would be very cautious with this one. The caliber (cal. 1611) parts are scarce, expensive, not every watchmaker is skilled to work on it and omega service is out of question. My watch, don't knowing why, died from one day to another, my watchmaker changed the batteries and, as long as not working, he told me to try the Omega service, after two weeks of inspection they wanted 2850 euro for the service, my eyeballs almost jump out of my eyes... Later i sold it to a friend of mine who wanted it for exposition purposes only. 3500 CAD for that watch don't seem good deal, it's seems pretty bad actually
There is ugly. Then there is fugly. Then there is the Chrono-Quartz! They say everything comes back in style eventually, but I just have to disagree on this one.
The Scoreboard. I had one, but sold it recently, while it was still alive and kicking. The old electronic inside them has not at all the same life span as a mechanical watch. I sold it at CAD 1900, and was happy that I got that.
Christian worked on one of these and posted the details: http://watchguy.co.uk/the-beast-of-biel-the-omega-chrono-quartz-196-0052-calibre-1611/
