Sapphire sandwich smudge from shirts question -please help

Hi All

I recently bought my first speedy which was a dream come true. I opted for the Sapphire Sandwich 1863.

I’ve noticed that the dial sapphire attracts a ton of smudges more than other sapphire Crystal watch I have owned before. I even got “smudges” on the face from wearing it under a hoodie from the cuff rubbing back and forth across the dial. All the smudges wipe off with a sunglass cloth but it seems crazy that my sweatshirt is leaving smudge like streaks across the face.

Is this normal? Thanks for the help all

Did the cuffs on the hoodie have some substance on them?

Good question. I just checked and it doesn’t seem so. It’s just a basic cotton hoodie

Adding photos to show the smudges
Sometimes my watches will get something oily on them like suntan lotion that will appear to disappear if I wipe them with a cloth, but actually remains on the crystal and case. Have you tried cleaning the watch with some mild soap and water? That usually takes care of it for me.

Smudges, to me are nothing to worry about. Wait until you get scratches from starched dress shirt cuffs or the metal back of a button snap on a jacket cuff. Better yet, the simple act of slipping your hand into a zippered pocket of a ski parka. At that point you'll wished you had simple smudges that wipe off.😀

Should come off with a microfiber or lens cleaning cloth. You do have skin oil or some other contaminant on your cuff.

Yeah Sapphire is very hard to scratch from things like that. Hesalite on the other hand much easier. But Hesa has the benefit of being able to polish out.

Stop using fabric softener and dryer sheets.

I agree, fabric softener definitely leaves a residue. I’ve noticed this as well when using a handkerchief to wipe my eyeglasses.

If it leaves a residue on the watch, what is it leaving on your skin?😲

Thanks all. The fabric softener comment makes sense but what is confusing to me is that it seems to be happening way more to my Speedy. I just bought my Speedy and have been wearing it for a week and noticed it right away. I get that I'm probably still in the "honeymoon phase" as some folks call it and check out every detail on the watch constantly. But I used to wear a Hamilton X-wind auto chrono a lot and never noticed any smudges or streaks on the sapphire crystal dial.

I wonder if the raised sapphire on the dial of the Speedy picks up more? I totally get this might sound silly, and scratches are way worse and will happen, I just want to make sure there is nothing wrong with the glass (e.g. coating problem, etc.) b/c it's new.

Thanks again all - I'm glad I found this forum as there have been lots of interesting threads!

Does your watch have the AR coating on the outside of the crystal? My SMPc does and I get these smudges all the time. Not a big deal. Just use a microfiber cloth and some eyeglass lens cleaner.

Exactly! That is why I quit buying and using it.

It is not supposed to according to the Omega site. That was my first guess as well.

Well, that may be a blessing in disguise. Although I haven't had any problem with the crystal on my watch (and it's a 2017 model), I understand that some owners of the new version of the SMPc find that the AR coating scratches very easily, so perhaps you're better off without it.

This is one of the many reasons I don’t like sapphire- to the point I actually put an acrylic on my sub which came with sapphire. It’s just the nature of the material and coatings.

Dumb question(s):
Is smudging from the same hoodie or multiple hoodies?
Do you use lotion on your arms?
