Hi all, Saw this up for auction and be grateful for any advice/thoughts - dial looks ok, but the case not great and rust around the crown/ pushers and caseback is a concern. Movements looks ok, but with the rust I'm worried about water ingress (guide price is £1500 -2500.) No details of the general condition, just the following description: 'An Omega Speedmaster Professional chronograph steel cased gentleman's moon bracelet wristwatch, circa 1975, the signed jewelled movement numbered '39924746', with dust cover, the case interior detailed '145022-76 ST''
Not rust, just built up crud, gunk, dirt whatever you want to call it. Should clean up nicely when it gets a full service.
Davidt No - just a lame reference to E-T's comment above about porcelain thrones! Thanks for your comments and glad you think it has potential. Thanks to everyone for your help and advice - much appreciated. I will get a more detailed condition report - of course, there already seems to be a lot of interest in this pre-auction. Even If it only reaches its upper estimate of £2500, with the high buyer fees it will exceed the price charter on Speedmaster 101 for this reference (3100-3800 USD)
Unfortunately for you, there will probably be another 30 odd people interested in this one now Hope you win though
Wabi sabi I think is the term. Why would the owner offer it for sale, without attending to the wrist slime?
Mine used to look like this after a summer of field work wearing sunblock everyday and working in dusty conditions. A good scrub with a toothbrush and soapy water took care of it...just make sure your seals are good before you attempt that. You should have seen the funk that came off the bracelet-black water!
But it comes with a bracelet (price chart is head only) and it also has an attractive grayish bezel ($ +/- depending on who you ask). Looks like a nice watch, I’d swing if it was pitched to me.
