I guess when you look at it with todays eyes - it looks used and no one wears watches anyway. I can see why someone thought it wouldn't be worth much, if anything.

I wonder if I own stuff right now that it worth much more than I think it is....

I'm curious if this thought or worry crosses anyone else's mind. I'll admit, lately, to an increasing anxiety every time I throw away crappy old spiedel flex-o-fit bracelets. They're *loathed* right now, and worthless, and (imo) rightfully so. That said, as this hobby shows, things have a way of surprising us by suddenly being in demand and valuable.

Hipsters love grandpa fake gold watches with stretchy bracelets. 70’s drug-store chic is hot right now- as are calculator watches. These ass-hats blow my mind

Trust me, when I shuffle off this mortal coil, head down to my local recycling centre quick - it’ll be watches galore, classic Sci Fi and Fantasy first editions, a couple of Linn record players and lots of Naim gear tipped into the bins. Mostly because I told Mrs K I paid peanuts for them...

I remember once throwing away some light fittings. I remember them being on the curb less than 5 minutes before someone picked them up. I still think they might have been worth something.

I guess if you don't know the area you may not even know where to go to get information around it.

My lady is very aware of what all of my stuff is worth, she couldn’t care, but I do. I have been clear about what stays in the family and who gets called to broker off the rest so she doesn’t have to deal with selling it. Ideally I would deal with it before my time is up, but we don’t all get that opportunity. I wouldn’t want her to get screwed out of the value of my collections (I’ve told her she should take the money and travel the world with some hot piece of cheese-cake). Some of y’all may be getting a PM, hopefully in many decades from now ....about the watches- not the cheese-cake.

Some more images from the seller. It was found inside a box with other watches including an Omega Dynamic and "and some other 1960s watches but nothing that interesting "

Sold for £7000

Some not from a cave.

Last I checked, it was listed for 8k GBP at MWR and then listed as sold. I couldn't find where the seller indicated the price he paid. Did he tell you he bought it for 7000 GBP from the dump?

No he sold it for £7000 to the new owner. The one who bought it from the the guy who found it in a dump.

I think they are pretty amazing... but still prefer the dump find.
Agreed! They’re funky as hell, but I prefer one-step time checking! This thread had me reaching out to a friend who manages estate sales. Dibs and all that.....😗

Thanks, finally some pics with light. Looks like a beauty! Not bad for an afternoon dumpster find 😁

I remember seeing these at yard sales in the late 80’s and always walked right past them.
To think these retailed for well north of $2K back in 1973/4/5. The calculator job was over $3K, I believe. My older brother bought a Sea Dweller in 1978 for considerably less than that, I recall. I suspect it’s retained a little more of its original value (before anyone asks...he pawned it in 1985 ::facepalm1::).

My mother brought home a Texas Instruments digital calculator around 1975- it had a red LED display. I remember her telling us it was very expensive (several hundred if I recall) so it was not a toy. Within 5 years you got one free opening a checking account at a bank.

Yes TI were the innovators in that realm. They even had the first digital analogue display watch the Starburst which was very expensive.
