Wow, I thought it was click bait but I'm impressed.

All it needs is a little bit of TLC and I reckon it will turn out to be a lovely example with a story to boot.

OP: I saw a great film last night with an unbelievable twist at then end, called The Sixth Sense. Definitely recommended.

@STANDY : Yeah it’s great, especially the bit at the end where you find out Bruce Willis is dead 😁

It does make you wonder how it ended up on a dump.
Did it fall off a wrist, or did someone think their silly old watch was worthless?

I’d say the latter. I would think the real story is that a family member was clearing out a deceased estate and threw it away not knowing the value of the watch.

I go to estate sales in Florida. My wife loves them and picks them out. If you think money doesn't get thrown out all the time, go to estate sales.

At first when we started going to these a couple years ago, I literally couldn't believe the estate manager didn't look up values of things they were selling. But in many cases THEY DON'T. They mostly go by looks or what sounds like a fancy name and price it accordingly.

Why? They don't have time. The executor typically is a family member or official agent under direction of the heirs. They ALWAYS have a time limit on getting the estate disposed. Expenses start mounting after the death....property taxes, insurance, utilities, etc for the property where the sale is happening. Getting rid of the house contents is the worst part of the process, and dealing with what DOESN'T sell is a major PITA. Therefore, the goal in many cases is to get rid of the stuff any way possible, which many times means hiring someone who promises to get the house cleared out quickly (not necessarily profitably) so it can sell. So yeah, stuff gets thrown out because at the end of the day, whatever the estate doesn't sell, the quickest option is commonly to bring it all to the dump.

I found the CK2279 in a box of junk I'd kept in the loft for 32 years. The only reason it didn't get chucked was that it was inherited junk. One day I was rummaging through it and spotted the word Omega and thought to myself - aren't they good watches? And so the journey began.

I assume because you don’t spend your weekends trawling through rubbish dumps 😉

Many years ago I purchased this Globemaster from a lady who found it in a dumpster, along with some other belongings. It's definitely possible! Also found a few Russian watches in my garbage can before, but they weren't anything special...

It happens. I was dropping some old scrap electronics at the dump and sitting in one of the bins was a Tube fender reverb amp. They have a strict no dumpster diving policy at the local dump so I placed a piece into the bin and extracted the fender in one motion and swiftly turned back to the car, then grabbed another piece from the car and back to the bin to not raise suspicion.
Trim parts were still available from fender- the knobs and grill cloth were in great shape (just needed a cleaning), and I replaced the bad capacitors that killed it that night- tubes were still in great shape.
Gifted it to a friend who is a blues musician and he almost kissed me.

I guess when you look at it with todays eyes - it looks used and no one wears watches anyway. I can see why someone thought it wouldn't be worth much, if anything.

I wonder if I own stuff right now that it worth much more than I think it is....
