I have a pre-moon with a pristine DON. I noticed that I'm too cautious with the watch to enjoy it fully. I think that I'd be less apprehensive when it had a rougher bezel fitted to it. Which is why I am looking for a less than stellar DON bezel, basically a rough to passable bezel as categorized by Speedmaster101.
Hi Barth, why don't you try a DNN just for wearing the watch and keep the DON in.the safe? Just a dot would not make a big difference when wearing
I would personally not feel comfortable wearing a dnn ;-) Would then go for a decimal or pulsations aftermarket I think..
Yeah, a DNN just doesn't feel right. If push comes to shove, I might fit a newer decimal bezel on it and rough it up.
Just my opinion, but we work hard to be able to enjoy these time pieces, and it seems silly to me to not wear them! A nice DON is the price of decent used car today! For me, part of the attraction to vintage time pieces is that they exhibit their scars of life, their story! Be conscious of it, but so what if you bang/scratch it? If it were a plastic/Bakelite bezel that's another story. Some are nearly impossible to repair/replace, I'd understand totally! In fact, I wear my 145.012 more often for that very reason. I think if I somehow smashed the bezel on my 165.024BT, I'd be crushed as while they exist, so hard to find a good one! I say wear it proudly!
Can't say I disagree with the premise, but still I'd have lots of fun with a less than stellar bezel. Heck, I even sort of liked my previous 145.012 with banged up bezel better. Just more of a vintage feel (as you described). Sure, I could choose to grind my current bezel down, but I prefer not to.
Awesome idea. After reading this thread, I'm thinking of removing the pristine bezel from my 3570.50 daily wearer and replacing it with a near worthless cosmic POS bezel. Will replace this pristine bezel With this faded piece of Junk
I agree with the "wear them as intended" vibe. I've got a lovely grey/ghosted bezel on my CB 321. Wouldn't even think of taking it off to keep it safe. It's a huge part of the watch. If I absolutely had to, I'd go with a decimal bezel as a replacement. Maybe chuck it around in some pebbles for a minute to age it a bit.
Budget: limited by what I find reasonable for the particular bezel on offer. This thread might have been an easier ride if I skipped providing my reasoning why I wanted a DON bezel and just requested a less than stellar bezel.
