Rose Gold Connie Pie Pan 1959 - Brown Strap Advice please

My first vintage Connie - 1959 Pie Pan, 18k rose gold, caliber 561, in virtually mint condition - just arrived from the Amsterdam dealer, and onto my wrist in South Africa to mark the birth of my daughter.

I prefer brown straps and on the advice of my AD he insists that this watch should be worn with an original strap which he has offered to order for me.

Any suggestions, advice or comments on the following:

    1. How important is an original Omega strap in collectors circles?
    2. Is there a specific strap I should seek out for this vintage Connie, or will any 18mm omega do?
    2. Which brown goes best with rose gold? (I tend toward darker)
    3. Anyone got images of their rose gold Connie on their brown straps and mind sharing the strap identity/color code?

At the moment I’ve asked my AD to find something as close to the “chataigne” brown in the PDF of the 2017 catalogue someone posted on OF, in alligator or crocodile. No padding. (See image screenshot from catalogue)

Super proud to have this watch on my arm, along with my newborn daughter, and would like to do it justice with the new strap.

All advice and comments kindly welcome.

Darker browns go better with red/pink gold IMO.

By the way, did the dealer mention if the watch had been serviced recently? By the looks of the case back seal, it looks old and compressed (should be an O-ring there) so I'm guessing it wasn't serviced, or received a dealer* service.

Service doing the bare minimum to make it run rather than a proper service.

    Cheers, Al

Thanks Al, I’ll have my AD take a closer look when I pop in to collect my strap order. As far as I know it hasn’t been serviced and was a personally owned watch of the dealer (Peter Wagenaar) who rarely wore it.

Thanks for your dark brown vote too

I would advise against letting the dealer service it, unless they are doing it with an watchmaker on the premises that understands what vintage collectors want. Under no circumstances should this be sent to Omega.

    Cheers, Al

Congrats on both new family members! If your budget allows for an Omega strap, then go for it, otherwise, whatever floats your boat will work. Unless the AD is giving your the strap for free, the choice is yours. With that all said, it is a splendid watch that is deserving of an Omega strap
