Rose Gold Cap Pie Pan, Worth it at $2500?

Just been offered this pie pan constellation from 1966 for $2500. I know rose gold cap pie pans are harder to come by, but is the $1000 premium worth it?

Not in my book it isn’t.

The watch is nice but in no way exceptional.
The case is ok but not super sharp.
The dial has a significant amount of unattractive ’grubby’ patination.
The lume on the indices looks as though it may have been removed.

For that kind of money you would be expecting a near perfect gold capped pie pan dogleg. (Pink or not). As you rightly say, this is a $1500 watch - because it is a less common pink gold version.

Dial should be perfect and going with black onyx inserts to fetch top price.

it would have to have a case as sharp as @gbesq 's yellow gold capped dogleg and a dial like the one you show - even then $2,500 would be a steep ask, unless from a highly respected dealer with a recent, proven, service. (and -11 secs/day, and using a lift angle of 52 degrees shown on the timegrapher doesn't cut it for one of these splendid movts)

Have you bought or sold a gold capped 168/7.005 in the last 5 years?

I can’t say that I have ever bought a gold capped dogleg.

Whilst I personally appreciate gold capped Constellations, AFAIK they are still at the bottom of the; gold, SS, gold-capped, pile in terms of value.

The market for doglegs did rise a couple of years ago but then seems to have settled down again.

Are you suggesting that gold capped doglegs are now outstripping SS doglegs?
Or that SS doglegs are now regularly (privately) selling at above $2,000?
(Because I’ve seen no evidence of that myself)

Sometimes you need to pay extra for the watch you want if you don't have a lot of patience. But I wouldn't pay up like that for a mediocre example.

Someone will pay $2k for that watch. For me, either the lugs or dial would need to be in great shape to justify $2k. I would keep looking, though if you really want rose gold, you will one day have to pay too much.

It all depends on where you live, some cultures prefer gold capped than ss, they don't speak English and they are not participating in this forum, either.

There are a lot of Thai and Vietnamese members who don’t actual participate much but do PM when you have a nice deluxe for sale here, the last 5 I sold all went to Thailand and all to different members with little to no post history.

Huge popularity there for sure.

I can’t disagree with either @dsio or @hoipolloi that gold or gold capped watches are popular in Thailand and Vietnam but I would happily suggest that this doesn’t set the global market price for gold capped Constellations - which remains below that of gold or SS versions of the same type.

Returning to the original OPs question - $2500 for that particular watch is exorbitant and somewhere around $1000 above the recognised (private) market price.

I have no intention to sell my constellation gold capped dog legs, but I certainly wouldn’t sell for less than at least $2K for its condition.

I like the dial a bunch, and am a big fan of rose gold on that. The case condition makes me sad though (is that wear through the cap on the lugs?).

I spent some time looking at asking-prices of pie-pans, and I guess I'm having trouble finding something comparable for $1500. That one sadly seems to need a watchmaker, but IMO its pretty attractive...
