··Sets his watchNote to self. If a billionaire hands you a watch, it’s probably not a fake.
Jokes aside, I get it. Not a good look. But also, it's her business what she spends her money on. There's a difference between out of touch in the public opinion, even getting impeached for it, and getting your door rammed down by police searching for your legally owned property. Assuming the watches are all copacetic. It's pretty wild.
That blue strap is a crime with that uniform.

Would be a huge improvement if he swapped it out for a black one as it's a bit more discreet.
Maybe back then the GMT was regarded as a tool watch so it didn't raise any eyebrows. Fidel needed to keep track of what time it is in Moscow as well as Havana. Now, if he'd worn a "President" on the other hand... 😁
I’m thinking navy blue to match the uniform.
My first boss had the same watch, bought it in 1960/61 when he was in the Navy- it costs him $150 at the PX. They were indeed considered high end sport watches at the time but not “luxury” watches as we know them today. Several of the NASA astronauts got their GMT’s the same way (PX) and they weren’t earning big money in the service at the time. Che also had a Rolex.
Also let’s not forget that prior to the revolution in Cuba, Havana was the playground to the rich and famous. I’m sure any decent jewelry store or casino/hotel gift shop had Rolexes at the time.
Just come across this news story of how the president of Peru is facing possible impeachment for "permanent moral incapacity" and "illicit enrichment" because of her luxury watch collection (which includes a number of Rolex). Local police apparently raided her home in search of said Rolex because she failed to declare ownership of them...
