OK, Here is goes. My "Avatar" watch. A beautiful 4 liner 5512

Before you ask...I need the cash right now so I am unloading some jewels because, well, I have to. It was always a deal that my collection would serve as a pre-savings bank so....Also I bought this watch thinking it was solidly a 1971, my birth year, But then found out it is probably a 1972/3 although different people state differently. In any event here it goes:
    Screen Shot 2018-01-29 at 1.18.01 PM.png

There is the Steve McQueen Explorer (which is was not worn by him, And there is the 1970's 4th generation 4 liner 5512 sub which he did own.

    Rolex 5512
    Serial 3443***
Year of manufacture 1971/72/3 (there is some debate depending on Serial catalogue)
    Dial Hallmarked: 660ft=200m 4 liner
Bezel original except for the beat/pearl, which can be taken out and replaced or just left as a little hole.
Bracelet: Rolex Oyster double flip lock #593 link # 93150 (Not original bracelet for this model, I believe it would really correspond to a 16800. I wear it on leather.
    Serviced: November 2014
Professional Pictures: (movement pic was taken before service and cleanup.) Also before hesalite was cleaned. These are the pics I bought it from. After purchased I sent it to be cleaned (not polished, serviced and hesalite polish)
It was professionally authenticated by Sumpters Jewelry and since has been reviewed by several collectors.
    No Original box or papers.

    What else to note:

Case-back stamped 5513 which is quite typical of the 4th gen 5512 as they transitioned into the 5513.
Crown may be a Rolex original replacement crown at Service.
Dial, Hands and bezel original to the watch as per the collectors and watchmakers consulted
Pearl in bezel is not original to the watch. It can be removed and replaced or left out of the watch. That is why the color on bead/pearl is different
Lume/ Patina: Is an elegant eggshell. Not the radioactive Aisan lume that shows up around some forums but an appropriate clean version.

Price: $16,500 (amended from original 14.000. (if you expressed interest at 14.000 on January 29th I will honor) Wire transfer only. Shipped CONUS (or in person in Detroit) I will also be in NYC between the 8th and 12th. If you’re outsiders of continental US I can ship to you but you take responsibility for cost, risk, customs and you choose shipment method. FEEL FREE TO MAKE BEST OFFER.

    Returns
: No returns. Please review pictures and ask questions. Please feel free (as you would) to circulate the pics and data through the experts on this and other forums and share feedback. Unless you are certain of your feedback just PM me for discussion. If you are certain feel free to post in thread. I just don't want to dilute the sale with "opinions" although I welcome them personally and would take anything into account. If there is absolute certainty of a correction or note needed then yes, by all means, share within the thread

Just FYI and maybe you already know but if the back was original to the watch and from 1971 or 1972 there would be a date-quarter stamp inside of it up to the end of quarter/year "IV 72." However if it's from 73 (or a later replacement) then it won't have any date-quarter stamp, as Rolex stopped doing that for whatever reason, and the serial number data will remain somewhat inconclusive. Sounds like maybe there is no date stamp, as you mention the 5513 reference # inside but not that?
Either way really nice matte 5512 with so-called Non-Serif dial & GLWTS,
    T.

Thank you @tomvox1 . I would have to open it. I know about the 5513 from the watchmaker that performed the cleaning and certifying. If I stop by a watchmaker shop one of these days I'll have them open it. Come to think about it that is maybe why they listed it as a 1971 originally although the serial would point out to the 72/3

    Cheers, my pleasure.
FWIW and without any further info, IMHO the serial number does date it to any of the 3 years that you mention in your description (71-73). We see the 3 million range cover those 3 years -- for my money there are definitely 3 mil Rolex from 71 -- and then the jump to 4 million puts watches at 1974-75.
    Best,
    T.

So, I got a call from 2 high reputable dealers counseling me the price for this watch should be closer to 18G which is awkward. So I am rising price point to $16500. That said, If you have contacted me yesterday and expressed serious interest at the advertised price I will honor it because I'm not a douche. Otherwise price is now $16500 negotiable...because I'm not Hodinkee. (Actually waiting for their feedback on this watch as well)

Sorry and please keep PM me if you have valuable feedback in either direction or want to negotiate.

Also, Once this and a couple of items sell I will look to purchase a 2017 Steel Date-just 41 blue ideally with plain bezel and Jubilee. If you have that you can work it into the a trade.

    Thank you

Be patient, this is a great reference. I would be a buyer at this price point, if it wasn't for the fact that I already own one.

    GLWS!

    2 thoughts on that:
    1) It is possible a dealer(s) could be motivated to reach out and tell you the price should be higher if they perhaps have that same watch (or more than one) coming online or already in stock and they were looking to charge significantly more than you were asking.

    2) If you had made such a big pricing error why didn't they just snap it up themselves and flip it for a cool $3-4k profit?

Mute point now but they are friends that happen to be dealers, some are members of this forum. They're not dealers calling me out of the blue. Except for one that did contact me out of the blue that wanted to sell it for me at a higher price but the commission would have made it about the same for me...Either way the market is the market I suppose and the watch is, for now, on hold. Incidentally to an early buyer so he get's it at the original price if all goes through. It's ok, this is not a business for me, I don't need to make the "best" deal possible just what's right for me and the buyer.

So here's an interesting conundrum maybe someone can help with. Buyer is in Singapore, which is ok because all customs costs and insurances will be taken care of BUT. Parcel Pro is only allowing an account for insurance with a company, and at that they want references that the company is legitimately sending jewelry, watches etc. Obviously my company is not on that line of business. The carriers and other insurers I find will only accept liability up to 1000 (this is no matter what value or insurance amount you list. (If it's a watch depending on the company they cover 1000 to 2000 max) so....anyone knows of a third party that will insure this package for full amount?

    Thank you.

Hey Sergio, Give them a call directly, the website leads on to believe that one needs to have a business, not true.
They are extremely help full and the whole process takes a couple of hours. Best thing I did in regards to shipping and receiving valuable watches.
