I just obtained a 16610 as my first Rolex, and love it. I don’t care for the modern model as I feel it’s too bulky. I also like that it has a holes case making it feel just a bit more vintage. Bought from a gentleman on the Rolex Fourm and then dropped off at Rolliworks to get cleaned up.

I have a 16710 and had the Kermit. I’ve also had a 6 digit gmt.

I prefer the 5 digits. Just the case size and shape that works for me. I didn’t really care for the boxy profile of the 6 digit models, notwithstanding they are built like tanks.

the 5 digits have an old school charm that the 6’s never will.

I have a 16800 from 1985, which is basically the same as the 16610 looks wise, and my wife has a 116610. I like the look of both but the 116610 feels significantly more substantial on the wrist. It feels heavier, bulkier and doesn’t hug the wrist (not my wrist) the same way. A big deal for me is all the old ads and photos of people wearing the slimmer case Sub, it feels oldschool cool and is more elegant somehow.

Forced to choose I would probably take the 16610 four days in a week and the 116610 three.

You should really try both if you can. The 5 digit case is smaller, had better proportions (IMHO) and is classic. But the bracelet feels cheap and flimsy, especially the clasp.

I also prefer the scratch resistance of the ceramic bezel, and the easy micro adjustment of the newer bracelet.

Thanks for the input. I would love to try on both but the 16610 would be hard to find to try on haha. Nobody I know has one.
