Morning,

Ran into this piece over the weekend and wanted to make an offer on it. Everything seems to be in its proper place & I enjoy the aging of the honey comb dial, but I wanted to know if the fluted bezel was wrong here. I see several other 6285s online with a machined bezel instead. Inside case back seems properly marked. Any info added on this piece is a great help! I'd like to know what type of value these in 18k yg carry in todays market as well. No exp, with this model but it's caught my eye & I'd like to be the new owner if it checks out.

Best,

Thomas

Not a Rolex expert, but the movement looks tired.

Absolutely, It needs a full servicing. Dial is what draws my attention.

You have to wonder how a movement gets scratched up like that. Certainly not while sealed in a case.

What do you think the cause could be? Any exp with a situation like this? Should I stay away or be in it extra cheap?

Best,

Hard to say, one scenario:
The movement was removed from another watch and spent time sliding around in a box or bin with other materials until someone decided to build up a other old piece.

Scary.... My watchmaker didn't rob me with him appraisal to get it in tip top shape, but the doubt here makes me require a pass.

Sounds like a DEAL!!!
If you can make an offer and get it for less, that would be a hell of an entry point for a gold model..
Use the discount for the overhaul.. You will not regret it.

Absolutely! I drew up a post with it because this is where my gut was at, will pick it up tomorrow and get it serviced asap.

You forgot one important question that TTG answered for you, "Should I buy it?"

Yes if the price is right.

Are you sure it is marked 6285 as well between the lugs? I am wondering if it might have a 6285 case back but be another ref. ? I also am only familiar with 6285 as having an engine-turned bezel (which is not removable, like on my 6085, below). It's a beauty nonetheless.

Space between the lugs at the 12 position is marked "BREVET+" then under that is "6285". Space between the lugs at the 6 position is marked "24898"

Bezel seems to be removable on this piece!

OK, thanks for checking. Perhaps a later, transitional example of this reference! You got it for a steal.
