Hey guys I just want your opinion about swapping rolex to AP. I went and see my local grey market dealer to check out timepieces. To my surprise the owner showed me an AP 15400st blue dial and god its gorgeous and fits perfectly on my wrist. Since Im known to him and he's aware that I owned few rolex he said he will take my BLNR 116710 and submariner 114060 plus 12K aud. Not really keen but bit tempted. Sticker price for AP 15400st blue dial is 49Kaud. Is it fair or too much? He also have the 15500 grey dial for 41Kaud.Thanks

I would say that the batman is generally going for 15k usd plus and a stab in the dark would suggest 8k for the other Rolex which is over 35k aud. He wants another 12 on top of that. If my prices for the Rolexes are correct, then it seems he is getting a better deal than you.

Personally, I like the two Rolex better than either of the Audemars Piguet, but that's just my opinion.

He only asked the year I purchased the rolexes and he said another 12K aud top up. I didnt do my math there and I said Il think about it. At the moment here in oz batman is about 19-20K aud and nodate sub is 12.5K aud. I donno whats the retail for the 15500st since 15400st is already discontinued. Not really sold to this deal and by the way its a 2016 AP model as well. Thanks

Thanks. Still thinking about this specially the AP 15400st warranty is over. I heard servicing AP is atrocious ;(

I believe retail is 25K aud retail. Service is more expensive and takes longer. Can you live with just 1 watch? That would be hard for me. You have 2 nice trades that you could sell privately for more money to shrink the difference. I think the 15202
Is nicer but that’s a bigger jump in price.

shop around at other grey dealers; some may have a used 15400 at a better price. Try to get a breakdown on specific trade values for each of your 2 watches and buy price for the AP; you may do better just selling them on this forum. Just some thoughts

Thinking about this, if you really wanted to sell your two Rolex and buy the AP, I would sell them yourself, you are likely to get more money than he is offering as a trade-in (he does, after all, have to then sell them on with his markup)

I usually only trade watches that I was already thinking about selling. The only exception would be if it was a unique watch that I couldn't get any other way. But this is purely about money, so really it's totally a matter of personal preference for the OP. Obviously the dealer is looking to make money on both ends.

Stay wih what you have. The deal is not in you favor unless you can seriously whittle the 12k Aud down.
