NEw Boxes for Apollo 8?`

A friend of mine just purchased the Apollo 8, he said through a boutique. He was going to sell me his box (black lacquered box) but when he got it home, he said it was in the standard brown wood box and that new Apollo 8's no longer are sold with the black box. Can anyone confirm this...I feel like my friend did not go to a boutique, but a reseller.

The box is shipped separately from the watch, and it is not uncommon for the dealer to mix it up at the point of sale and give the consumer the wrong box. Happened to me at a boutique in Vienna when I purchased the older Speedmaster FOiS model in 2016. I didn’t know it was supposed to come in a special box. When I contacted them later (from the US), they were apologetic but also could not find the proper box, so mailed me several NATO straps to compensate.

If your friend really did by it from the boutique and wants the box, he should return, explain the situation, and see if they have the proper box. If they don’t, he can either forget it or escalate it to headquarters and see if he gets one from them.

Very interesting. Even the main website has the brown box...I will let my friend know (loosely a friend) to see if he can get the black box, he doesn't really care about the bio, BUT he was going to give it to me and I do haha!

Thank you everyone!

I checked a bunch of updated Apollo 8 watches on C24, they are all shown in the more generic brown box. And all of the current Dark Side of the Moon watches on the Omega website are shown with the light brown box. It appears that the current Dark Side line do NOT come with the older, dedicated 'Dark Side of the Moon' black lacquer box. So it's not likely anyone is going to get one of those boxes unless a dealer might have an older one in stock and is willing to part with it. The OP's friend got the proper box.

Thats what it looks like. I actually confirmed with Omega directly. That is such a weird move, especially considering the DSoM's are not cheap. Why go with the generic Omega box?

Probably to simplify things, no need to have two sets of boxes which carry the chance they will get mismatched upon sale.

I got a newer DSOTM ("Dark Vader") and it was in a disappointing wooden brown box. When I got my 2014 DSOTM it came in a very sleek black box.

That is such a shame. DSOM's are beautiful and need that black lacquered box. I actually use the boxes to display my pieces...darm.
