I really appreciate your help. One more question. How do I go about getting an approximate value? I have no plans on selling it I'm more interested in getting a value for insurance purposes.

Hard to guess without more pictures. My guess would be 8k as is. New “old” dial is going to be expensive (several thousand) but it would make a world of difference. I would join VRM and see if anybody there can source a period correct dial

Valuation is tricky. Because of the dial, the actual market value of yours is decreased substantially. However, for insurance purposes, I suspect you would want the full replacement value of an original watch in good condition. So maybe $15k.

Just an update on my 1016. I took it Bixlers today, (They are known as Americas Oldest Jewlers) and there sending it to their home office in Vermont, they are certified by Rolex for service, I'm in Pennsylvania. They suggested it be insured while it's gone for $20,000. I will then be able to get an actual value from them. On the slip it states, "do not replace any parts".
