Rolex Explorer 216570 Fake?

Hey there,

I would kindly ask the professionals here in this forum for their help.
Just received this Rolex.

When checking for clasp code etc. I noticed some high quality fake supplier from china uses the very same clasp code (random serial - what are the odds??) for all their 216570 fakes.

What do you think?

Of course I can provide more pictures if needed.

I would take it to a Rolex AD and have them check it out.

Next AD is 250 km away. Plan to do so on Friday. Seller wants to know now after I received it why I don't think it is legit.

Looks good. Compare it with mine. I've tried to take similar pictures. Sorry for the quality. Quick phone shots.

Can’t tell you for sure whether that one is fake or not, but I’ve handled a few high “quality” fake Rolexes. The easiest tells it isn’t real comes from unscrewing/screwing the crown, winding, and opening the clasp. Every fake I’ve handled have a gritty crown, and one has to fiddle with it to get it aligned to screw down - a far cry from real. The winding is also gritty and harsh, not smooth. Finally, it takes a lot more effort to open the clasp than on a real, because most don’t use the ceramic bearings as on the real.

If yours has any of these qualities, I’d strongly suspect it’s fake.

Well I'd say the watch itself is genuine. But the bracelet just doesn't seem Right. It even feels cheap (the clasp is really loose - and so is the safety lock of the clasp). The engravings don't seem right. And the clasp Code is the only one I can find when I search for one of those high Quality suppliers…
The watch should come from a 70 year old guy (and I highly doubt he removed and returned the bracelet of a 6 Digit Rolex just for fun / see the marks on the watch). At least that is what the seller of the watch (the one who bought from the 70 year old first-owner; he says he only got the watch for some weeks and did not wear it at all) claims...

+ the watch itself is Pretty badly polished even the seller said it would come unpolished. Gonna return that watch. Was really Looking Forward my first ExII - and now I got it: it just leaves a bad Feeling in the stomach…

If the bracelet doesn't look/feel right, that's a tell right there.

I own a 216570 and had the opportunity to handle a Noob replica, although sadly not when I had my genuine one on my wrist.

I found two glaring tells.. the orange paint on the Explorer II line had faded - but this had been exposed to sunlight and was a good few years old (so they may have improved the paint in recent years). Also the bracelet felt flimsy and cheap - the genuine Oyster bracelet is a work of art. But apart from the paint issue, the head looked damn good.

Supposedly there is also a difference in how far the hour hand will turn on a single turn of the crown between the genuine and replica movements.

The bracelet definitely looks as if it’s been taken off at some point, with the scratches either side of the pins into the watch case.

Here is a picture of those so called Noob Watches which seem to be high end fakes from china. Coincidence my watch got the same clasp code? Guess not...
What are the chances at three random digits with either being a number from 1-9 or a letter from A-Z to have all three correct? Someone good at calculating that? 😁

It may just be the angle but in picture #3 the cyclops looks off. Date doesn’t fill the space like it should. Again that could be the pic angle though.

Do you have etched coronet on the crystal?

Yes, but good fakes do too...
Watch back on it's way to the owner - hope to get my watch back soon (traded).

As people say, it is really noticeable on the fake ones and hard to see on the genuine. Fakers still can't do as fine etching on the crystal, as Rolex can.

Just for fun, I did some quick math. Assuming each digit could be either a numeral (excluding zero) or a letter from A-Z, that's 35 possibilities in each of the 3 positions. So the odds of matching the 3 digits in exact order is 1 in 42875. Happy to be corrected if my math is wrong!
