This is a ref 6144 with cal 710. I’ve seen a claim somewhere these 1950’s California dials didn’t come with Mercedes hands, but this one have a certificate of authenticity. What do the experts here think about this?

Good point. I think the base of the watch is legit. The dial is relumed but can be legit. Whether these hands are original is hard to say. If you find 5 other examples with these hands I'm in. If not I have doubts ;-)

There are probably very few people in the world who can give you a definitive answer about which hands are correct for this reference. Because it's so obscure and small, I suspect that very few collectors have studied it closely. If it really matters to you, I'd suggest hunting those experts down and contacting them directly. Otherwise, just buy it and enjoy it.

I think I have only seen relumed dials on the net, not any of them with Mercedes hand.

I guess the experts are harder to find than exchanging thoughts with knowledgeable people on watch forums.

You are asking for an answer to a very specific question, not just general thoughts or opinions. Experts may exist on some forums, but I think you'd benefit from figuring out who might really know the answer. The people that I'm thinking of don't frequent this forum at all. If this were a Submariner, Daytona, Datejust, Explorer, or GMT-Master, there would be dozens or hundreds of knowledgable people who could help, but a watch like this is really in the weeds. I'm just trying to give you advice that might be helpful, because that's what I would do in your position. I've bought some obscure references, and it takes a lot more effort to research them.

Yes, Dan. Just trying my luck. I’m semi-interested in this watch, but can’t be bothered to set up another account at yet another watch forum. I have seen some pretty mysterious things being solved/answered on this and other forums like this. Sometimes the right person just happens to frequent the site at the right time. I’m aware the watch is not one on which there’s an abundance of info, so I have done research and one result of the research is the question about the hands, which I was asking about.

Yes and lots of those experts built these in the 80's....

Where were those experts from?
Los Angelas and Italy.

They were not doing anything wrong either. It was a different time, and they created a demand with stories and filled it.
