Surprised they didn't raise them more. They could double the price and I doubt I could still get at SS sport watch at retail.
I’m sure it’s coming.

How do you keep these working? do you service them yourself?
I wish, I don’t have the surgeons hands you need to work on tiny parts.

So the new class of "collectors" are mostly flippers. Young tech/engineers in my team are very resourceful in landing hype pieces. These punks (not jealous at all) wear a new Rolex/Patek/AP every 2 weeks. Every time a Rolex changes hand, it goes up a few hundred bucks. I believe a white, steel Daytona is now touching $43,000. That same watch gets sold 2-3 times a month, that's just within my company.

Aint' nobody holding a GMT for 20 years like you J.
So a 10% price increase don't mean anything at all.
If anything, a price increase signals challenging production. HARDER TO OPTAIN.
Get with the time J and flip your GMT. I'll PayPal you now.
What’s disturbing about this is all I hear is about a generation that bemoan never being able to afford a home, eternally renting, crippled with students loans- but they can afford a $43k watch.
Sorry if I sound like an old fucker (at 49), but I hope the guys you work with have their student loans paid off, homes paid off, and retirement accounts maxed out for matching….or I don’t want to hear a goddamn thing about their generational struggles.

It's almost like there is more than one person in a generation. I know this is hard to understand but the people that will never be able to afford a house probably aren't buying $43,000 watches!

actually quite a bit of them aren't home owners, but that doesn't mean they can't afford it. the flex culture is amazing. YOLO baby!
this brings me to Omega $81k white gold offering. O is missing out big time on IG flexing generation.
If I can't differentiate $7K trilogy to $14K New321 to $81k Canopus Trilogy. Then what's the damn point?

sorry for the thread drift.

You know its crazy that my local dealer has ZERO new and ZERO used Rolexes, yet 3 doors down at the antique store they have over 30 laying right there for anyone to buy. And down the street the other way is a jewelry store with a dozen used Rolexes. You know what all these stores DON'T HAVE? Speedmasters.......

I'm happy about, specifically WRT to the SS explorer 36. the delta between the grey and retail prices is shrinking, so hopefully there's a chance to land one at retail this year

Fair enough and not debating any of the points you make, but I am still going to go on a whim and speculate that their price increases are not just to reflect inflation,

They have to pay for all those 3235 warranty claims somehow...

All this and I can’t seem to sell my Submariner two tone. Everyone wants it for 7500. I don’t get it.

I love your two-tone, an absolutely period statement piece. But you have to “own it” with a piece like that- same as the root beer GMT. It will take the right buyer with a flair for color.

Appalling that they haven't rolled out an official fix for this even though the issue's been known about for years. So much for not being a brand that adheres to the principles of planned obsolescence.

Or, they have noticed that watches keep going up in value, and bought the hype that a Rolex is just one more way to diversify their assets. Has anyone been wrong about that in the last 5 years?

True, now only two things that will apparently survive an apocalypse, roaches and Rolex values.

Exciting Rolex news!

I've been fortunate enough to see some early product development information, so I have some insight here. I have inside contacts that I can't really tell you about because it's private communications, but you can be sure they are real...no really real...like seriously...

Rolex will introduce a new product called "Oysterlube" in 2022. When you arrive at an AD to try on the only watches they have on display (the watches that have no movements), and you express an extreme desire to own a real one, you will have the opportunity to pay $10,000 for a tube of Oysterlube.

Along with this you get an NFT that verifies your purchase of genuine Oysterlube, that you can take to a grey dealer for redemption for the model that you have selected. This NFT doesn't pay for the watch, it merely confirms your ownership of the Oysterlube using the blockchain, and entitles you to pay the grey dealer prices.

The literature I've seen states that the Oyseterlube "eases the transaction...slightly" at least based on their early testing. There is enough Oysterlube in the tube for just one transaction. However the literature states that repeated use of Oysterlube may result in "much easier" transactions down the road.

The "I've been Oysterlubed at a grey dealer" tee shirt is optional, and only for those who really want to show their "true wealth and power" to others.

Cheers, Al

😉

Know someone that has been on the waiting list for 5 price rises on a Daytona. 🤦
Which is probably the price it was Grey in the very beginning now with the latest price rise. (The price he refused to pay)
