As I mentioned in WRUW I am currently in Switzerland and yesterday visited the Omega Museum in Bienne. It was a fine visit and we saw some fantastic timepieces which I will post at a later date. However over breakfast this morning as I was reviewing my smartphone photos to my great surprise I came across this one and almost choked on my Alpen Müesli

1950's arrowhead dial Constellation with a T Swiss Made T dial

    Crosshairs incomplete ::facepalm2::

Sure looks like a fake dial to me :whipped:

It seems they need to do a little work in the due diligence department and find it hard to understand how this one slipped through the net. I'll be sending an email to the museum department first thing Monday morning when I have hopefully gotten over my shock!

Not fake, but an incorrect redial.

This is why we say that it's not a good idea to pay $1,000+ for the Omega factory service on these older watches.

Omega's contractor no longer has the correct dies for the dials. No one does.

Which is why they are so common and nice, original specimens command a premium.

Aside from the printing flaws it is very likely that this was never a black dial when it left the factory and instead was converted to one. Original black dials with arrowhead markers for the 352/354/501/505 constellation generation are particularly difficult to locate.

What makes you so sure that it is only an incorrect redial?

Surely whether they had the correct die or not Omega and Omega's contractor would know not to sign a non tritium dial with T Swiss Made T, hence my post.

    Great point!

...and where's the tritium on that dial? Edit: I forgot about the hands... I suppose it would be there, only...

What Omega make a mistake? It can't happen!

My 283 caliber does not have a center second hand but a subsecond dial. And, looking at the movement, it likely left the factory that way even though the 283 is cataloged as a center seconds movement.... Naw.... mistakes never happen, before or after the production line.

Like the picture of the 50s Rolex movement I saw recently..... wrong caliber number and type stamped right into the movement.

I used to have a photo of a special order of two tone painted pickup trucks coming off the line at General Motors, some big corporate special order in company colours.... and the paint on all of the boxes is reversed! The truck cabs are dark green with light panels and the boxes light green with dark panels. 200 hundred were built and they all had to be repainted before they could be shipped. ya gotta love it!

A poor redial in the Omega museum? What's next, artificially enhanced and genetically modified plants on a farm? Egomaniacs running for President? The End is Near!!!!

To be fair, this was the only dubious watch I saw, the majority of the rest were superb.

Well, I'd need to see the inside of the watch. I'm giving Omega the benefit of the doubt.

The contractors are just that. They do a job. They have no knowledge of the history of the brands or when tritium was used or not.

You can ask @ulackfocus about that.

The SWISS MADE Jaeger that came back 'restored' from Le Sentier, but never had tritium to begin with. :p

The Omega Museum has many more watches than on display at any given time. Their policy of is to periodically rotate specimens over a gradual period of time. This watch was not on display in 2014, trust me, I would have seen it :D. I photographed every Constellation.
