Been on my wishlist to visit for so long. Trouble is, there as so many things to see (beaches, mountains, deserts mentioned above) and do, where do you start....?
You start in Puebla Mexico, drive up along the Camino Real and following the coast north. Enjoy La Jolla/ San Diego for a couple days and stay at the Del Coronado. Drive strait up the coast to Santa Barbara and look towards the water as you go through Los Angeles for fear it may get some on ya’. Santa Barbara for a few days, then up to Santa Cruz, Big Sur, Carmel, Monterey- you will want to stay in this region for about 5 days- a week. You may never leave this area so be prepared for that. Next up to San Francisco for 3-5 days, then Napa to Eureka over the course of a few more days. Head up along the Oregen coast- take your time- it’s lovely. Seattle for a few days then up to Vancouver/ Victoria for a week. That’s the best trip you may ever take.

Sorry for that lengthly personal rumination - I am a native Californian living on the east coast for 26 years. And as a native Los Angelean- I cannot stress how much you should bypass LA

I understand your point, but by avoiding LA one would miss out on sampling the insane array of ethnic food from all over the world.

I do miss getting authentic Thai food at 2am, and rice bowl while I wait for my 1 hour dry cleaning- and you can get a donut, all at the same place.

My mistake- lovely town
Kidding. I’d keep driving, too. 😉. Better yet, stop in Astoria and cross the Columbia there.
