Twin Peaks and his films have been a companion for most of my life, so this one stings. Here he is with (maybe) a Ventura. RIP

Oh man, that hurts to hear. I was really hoping he could get another couple projects into development, but it seems like he was having a rough time between his health and the state of film financing. 😞

Overall I’m a big fan of Mr Lynch …. I will forgive him for Dune. Left us too soon. It’s true that for many of us younger Boomers he was a major part of our cultural lives.

Deadline reporting indicated smoke from the fires caused his health to turn. Obviously a terrible situation for people with emphysema, asthma etc

David Lynch is a personal hero of mine, for a few reasons. But, I won't be sad because I know he wouldn't be, either. He would gaze off and instantly come up with some internalized, profound, and hilarious statement about his own death. And everyone would have to smile because he'd be right. We were lucky to have him.

"Keep your eye on the doughnut and not on the hole!" - David Lynch

You may know the backstory, but the odds were really set against him with Dune - tons of issues with funding getting cut at the last minute, tight release deadlines meant they didn't have time to do VFX post properly, and lots of scenes got cut which made the story very muddled.

I don't usually give in to the 'auteur' theory of filmmaking since it's always a team sport, but he really brought a unique voice and vision to his work and showed us what can be done in independent film.

I'm gonna queue up Twin Peaks for a rewatch this week.

Cool guy, met him several times and worked on this short teaser trailer with him many years ago

What was he like to work with? Everything I've read makes it sound like, despite his eccentric public persona, he was a total pro and supported his team well.

To be honest I don't remember too much about the project, it was over 30 years ago. I worked for Sony Pictures at the time, we had setup a facility to introduce High Definition imaging (ie. original Sony HDVS) to Hollywood, I worked on the technical side. David wanted to do many things that were cutting edge at the time, digital compositing, CGI using a Symbolics graphics system, it was not exactly easy and the result was marginal at best. He certainly had vision and was prepared to spend Sony's money to try and achieve it.

Sad.

Not really a fan, I have to admit. But Mulholland Drive is quite something and an incredible movie.
