Which Watch Worn When Weird…

Since 2002 I have recorded my daily cycling mileage on a calendar. Not a bad way to stay motivated and to keep up with time…

But…

In 2017 or so I began writing down which watch I wore each day. Until yesterday. It took me this long to realize that this does not achieve much.

Am I alone? Do you have weird watch related rituals?

Here is a typical part of a calendar (2020). SS is my system six and scalpel is my other Cannondale. They are both old now. I have reduced my watch numbers significantly. Maybe this is why I gave up!

Obligatory watch pic…

What are your weird watch habits?

I include whatever watch I was wearing in dive logs at the bottom of the page. Splitting time among SMP300 (18 model ), OG orange Planet Ocean 2500, and SM300 first run.
My intention was always to have "A" watch, but...circumstances... So, I try to give each one it's own story and equal time.

Yes, I dive with a snorkel ( not THAT kind ). A lot of inland diving where I fin out to a decent spot. Now it mostly stays on my mask.

I don't know whether it is a "ritual", but I like my watches to be clean. So, the ones with good seals frequently get washed under the tap, and the others get spritzed with eyeglass cleaner, basically alcohol, and wiped down.

Never once have I had water intrusion, by the way, over the decades.

A clean watch, especially with a bracelet as most of mine are, will wear less than one that never gets cleaned.

I, after I got my Breitling, started detecting it this way. I found that when I wear it during the day it loses a few seconds, but when I lie down at night it keeps time. I had to check it every few days. On 29.10 in the evening I opened it and played with a toothpick and improved its performance. I haven't checked it since. During the day, he loses 5-6 seconds, and when I put him to sleep with the glass down, he catches up. With the crown down, it lags behind, which is the prevailing position during the day. The photo from the application is in a horizontal position. With the information gathered, can I certify it as a chronometre? 😀

No, but it's time for a service based on your data and my own opinions, which of course not everyone agrees with.

It has been under repair since two months ago, after sitting for what I believe to be many years without working. I think it works fine for an 80 year old watch, but you're obviously seeing something on the app that I don't understand. Thanks in advance for your reply!

I would love to see a close up of that watch. Looks nice!

Landeron 42. Came to me with no belt and two missing brakes. The watchmaker made them, and I found a reasonably suitable crown.

I started doing that in 1994, but I do so little now that it's embarrassing to record. For a month in 1996 I recorded all my travel by car, motorbike, bicycle and foot just out of interest.

You might wonder how "souls on board" can get to a maximum of nine on foot. I think that was with friends & kids to go to a firework show 😎

In 2017 or so I began writing down which watch I wore each day. Until yesterday. It took me this long to realize that this does not achieve much.

When I had more than two I did start to record when I switched -- generally at weekly intervals. But now that it is half and half the Speedy Reduced and all the others combined I don't. I do take a look at the watch spreadsheet to see when I last checked timekeeping and reserve for each one I wear.
