I think, by now, you have your answer. I suspect you knew it all along. That watch is one of your longest companions. Service the movement, perhaps a quick clean on the exterior. But for the love of your companion, don't "restore" it. An excellent piece, an excellent story, and welcome to the OF party, sir!

As a former Marine myself, I know what this sort of stuff means to me. Yet I wasn’t near as fortunate as you to be able to make such a great purchase. This is a great watch with a great story. Please wear and enjoy it in good health.

And if you ever do want to sell it, feel free to send me a PM anytime!!!

I’ll “trash it” for you. Will even coVer shipping!!

Great watch and story. I am guessing by now you have a few offers but I’d still consider keeping it.

Although I'm not a former Marine, besides there are no former Marines. Once a Marine, always a Marine. Yes?
I'm an old grunt from the 101st. Air Borne out of Camp Eagle Viet Nam about the same time as you were there.
Like so many others, simply find a competent Omega watchmaker and get a sympathetic service. Replace nothing.
Welcome home and thank you for your service. Stay safe and wear the hell out of your Speedy 😀

Once a Marine, always a Marine is very true. A former Marine is one who served and was honorably discharged. I believe what you were thinking is there is no such thing as an Ex-Marine. That is a disgraceful term used for those who were not discharged honorably.
Next time, I will use the term Marine Veteran to describe myself to avoid confusing other branches.
And thank you for your service!

I wish in a few decades I could wrote a post like yours with sentimental attachment to a watch owned since new, but I already caught the vintage bug, cant look at new modern watches anymore. Anyway awesome story and watch

Great story and a great watch. Thanks for posting,. I'm far from an expert, you have some great advice here already from some knowledgable folks. IMHO I would follow the advice to get it serviced with no cosmetic restoration at all and then wear it every day with deserved pride. Thank you for your service.
