still somewhat distantly related to this in DNA or a bit of a stretch to think that way?

Wait for the true experts to weigh in, but it looks OK to me. It is an early Seamaster, so not far from the original the 1948 was modeled after.

The seller is a well-known Japanese vendor of vintage watches. Generally well thought of and prices are usually reasonable but not great. I think that is the case here.

It's a harfloater! That is one of my secret search terms. I believe it is a Google translate error for half-rotor (i.e. a bumper automatic).

IMO the "harfloater" happens when a Japanese seller dictates the item description to his secretary with all the well-known difficulties of Japanese of correctly pronouncing the "R", sounding more like a "L" 馃榿 always gives me a chuckle when I read this...

The loose screw floating about in the movement could be a slight concern.

Good spot. Looks like a dial screw and it doesn't look particularly clean. These bumper movements are good at loosening screws.

Cheers, Chris

The seller of this watch also sells the same watch on Chrono 24. You can buy this watch somewhat cheaper at Chrono24.
But I don't know which one is cheaper for the total cost including shipping, taxes, etc. Sorry...

The seller does not have a physical store in Japan and sells only through the Internet. As a matter of fact, it is not very famous in Japan. They are focusing on overseas sales and seem to be more recognized overseas than in Japan.

Buying from Japan you need to be mindful of VAT and customs. Japanese sellers are very particular about full declaration of an item鈥檚 price - not that I鈥檇 be advocating anything else - but it鈥檚 something to keep in mind.

I say go for it, it鈥檚 an honest watch. Just get it serviced.

Thanks for your expert advise. It arrived. The dial looks better in person than was in the listing photo, my photo, and I like it.

Unfortunately the movement is DOA, not much of a surprise to me. Will somehow work with seller, and it is going to need the service anyway.
