I think @tyrantlizardrex posted this not long ago, but thought I'd repost just for fun. http://speedmaster101.com/blog/first-draft/
“It seems to me, from watching completed sales in auctions, both online and physical, that most people spend $2000-3000 for an 861 and $3000-6000 for a 321.” Times are a changin
Well, almost five years. http://forums.watchuseek.com/f20/thoughts-buying-pre-moon-speedmaster-817245.html#/topics/817245
Being a newcomer to vintage speedmasters it was great reading through this thread. Thanks for reposting oddboy. As the interest and value of these speedmasters has gone up so has the level of knowledge and scrutiny they now come under when offered for sale.
Good Lord! It would seem @Spacefruit got it pretty well 'bang on the nail' first time. Pretty damn good for a bit of 'thinking and jotting' in an airport. Prices have certainly changed and I love the $400 top end for a dot over 90. An interesting observation on this is that, when I see forum members direct novice buyers or owners to Speedmaster101, they tend to refer to it's dates, values and serial number ranges as if they are written in stone. I think we can see, by the way this very valuable, resource has developed, that William sees it very much as a constantly evolving work in progress. Nice post @oddboy .
While we are on the Speedmaster theme... this was quite a nice personal account of how this bloke decided on which watch to buy. https://us7.campaign-archive.com/?e=066dd916af&u=fb43264883262cedeb6a73cd6&id=23f10cc8ef
Those were the days... back then you could buy a house for 50 quid and a beer for a shilling. Oh wait it was like a couple of years ago :\
