do I need a certain post count to post in response to ads, or generally are the threads locked off to the OP? Thanks
You can private message anyone with something for sale. With less then 200 posts they may be a bit cautious as you are a new member without a history here.
Don't be discouraged, WelshBoa. I bought my first watch off here when I'd been here but a month. I think it took me 3 or 4 months to hit 200 posts. If you see something you like, don't hesitate to ask -- the worst they can say is no.
I bought my first watch from kringkily via PM with two posts and maybe a week as a member. I paid via bank wire and waited for my payment to clear into his account before he sent the watch but I read his feedback on the forum and had a high level of trust and was comfortable with the process. Worked out great...I love my AT. If the seller is on this board you can rest assured what they have is what they say they have and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from any one of them.
What are you talking about? You have always been allowed to contact a seller on this forum and buy an offered watch via PM. A seller does not need to sell to you but neither do they need to sell to someone with 10000 posts.
You are correct, only that you can not reply to a FS thread and/or comment on such a thread unless you have 200 posts.. Black and white, there is no requirement for you to have 200 posts to buy only to list but you retain all rights to follow through with a transaction as a private entity under 200 posts or 10,000 posts....
I too purchased my first OF watch without 200 posts via PM. Fortunately I had some OF members to validate the seller and the watch as the conversation started on the forum. So the best argument for being a member with high engagement is safety and quality and, to be honest, opportunity.
As said before, just use the PM function if you would like to buy from an ad. Apart from building a relationship between seller and buyer, it also ensures confidentiality. The first watch I bought off here I sent a direct PM to the seller whilst under the 200 post count.
If youze guyz don't stop complaining about the 200 post rule, I'm going to change it to 20,000 posts. I'll be the only m'f'er allowed to buy watches then! If any of youze guyz want one, youze gotta pay da squirrel da vig.
If the seller is on this board you can rest assured what they have is what they say they have and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from any one of them.[/QUOTE] I would say that this is definitely true in general but one of my purchases from a seller in the watches for sale section was not as described and in my opinion he knew that the watch was not working but sold it as working anyway. It certainly pays to be careful not matter who you are buying from when it comes to dealers. I have always been 100% happy with the watches I have bought from the private sales section.
I had an even more stringent criteria to fulfill before i could set foot in the sales section 800 posts 0R 1600 likes ! whichever comes 1st[emoji14] My head was on the chopping block many timesI also had to make a promise to post after sales modelling photographs[emoji26]ANDrequired the final forum clearance & blessings from any 1 of the above[emoji51]
Generally speaking the sellers here are good from what I've seen. However some sellers have been banned from this forum for repeated poor behavior, so it's not like everyone who has ever sold here has been perfect. Due diligence is always a good idea, even for people who have met the required posts here, or who have been vetted by the mods by whatever process it is that they use for those who don't meet the 200 post requirement... Cheers, Al
