Replacement Bracelet 1039

I received a 1970 Speedmaster Professional (clasp dated 2-70) as a graduation gift from my father who purchased it on release. The ref. 1039 bracelet is no longer viable (most of the caterpillar links are broken) The clasp and 516 ends are in good condition.

Trying to figure out if it is a ref 145.012 or 145.022... It has a dot over 90 bezel, and doesn't mention the moon on the back case. The 2-70 (1039) bracelet was original to the watch so I am guessing it is an early 145.022.

I've heard Omega sells replacement bracelets that will fit my watch but will they be modern or will they resemble the flat Link bracelets of old? I've done a ton of research and have an inquiry in to Omega but the photo they sent me of the proposed replacement doesn't look much like the original 1039. Anyone have experience with this? Any help would be much appreciated!

Omega can certainly sell you a bracelet to fit your Speedmaster, but it won't be a flat link bracelet. Most likely they will recommend a 1171 bracelet with 633 end links. If you Google Forstner Flat Link and Uncle Seiko flat link you will find two sellers of replica flat link bracelets. By all accounts they're good products and you might like the look better than the 1171 bracelet at a more affordable price.

It’s also possible to have your 1039 refurbished or buy a ‘new’ vintage one in better condition.

The Forstner flat link looks nice. I wonder if I'll be able to put my 516 ends and original clasp on it?

This sounds like a great plan. I wonder where I could get it refurbished

They recommended a 020ST1998849 (which looks way more modern than the 1171)

Looks like I have all 8 regular links on each side. Plus 3 caterpillar links total (one on one side and 2 on the other? tempImagexRjWqk.png

That doesn’t look too bad from the angle. Restoration may be viable.

I would suggest avoiding a cheap Made in China bracelet for the watch.

Question is where would I find the required links and who is capable of doing the work? Has anyone had a similar situation?

I think that classicwatchrepair will probably restore it.

I wear an Uncle Seiko with my original 516 ends on my 165.024. I put my 1039 in the safe, it’s full links and too long for me. The uncle seiko wears great, as good or better than the original.

Another option would be an Omega 1175 flat link bracelet with 640 end links. These are not that difficult to find in good used condition at a reasonable price and the construction is more robust than the 1039 IMO.

+1 on the 1175. It's a lot cheaper than the 1039 and looks more like it.

The 1175 doesn't have spring links, which makes the 1039 soooo comfortable. But it might be a great option until you can get your 1039 repaired.

With 640 endlinks?
Shouldn't they be 575 end links?

By the way the bracelet looks restorable to me...

Cheers

575 are for 1116 bracelet. 1175 comes with 47 or newer 640 endlinks

Correct. The 640 end links can still be purchased directly from Swatch/Omega.
