On this 100th anniversary of Remembrance Day To all who served, in whatever theatre or country, be it past or present who have given their lives or have suffered for the sacrifice. We thank you for the freedom you have fought to preserve.
I was going to post a very similar picture I took on Friday morning but here's another. The 'Wire Soldiers' at St. John's church, Slimbridge, Gloucestershire, UK. They have a ghost-like, almost holographic quality. Each soldier stands looking down on the gravestone of a WWI or WWII veteran from the parish. Brilliant idea, beautifully executed.
I have grown up quiet immersed in history and try to honor our past in any ways I can. 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the 18th year.
I took this image on a wet, cold, blustery evening in 2015 at Tyne Cot cemetery near Ypres, Belgium. With the exception of the brave souls buried there, I had the place to myself. Among the many thoughts I had at the time, it saddened me to think we have learned little....Lest We Forget.
