Remember when Speedmasters were Cheap?

The only people you can blame are yourselves. 🤪

I've told you before. You don't have to read speedmaster threads if they upset you so much.

People will start to think you have a suppressed lust for them, the way you keep bumping the threads.....

I was hunting for a pre-moon for some time ago and I got lucky in 2010-2011 I guess, when I bought this 105.012 for some £1500 (head only). Few years later in 2013 I traded my pre-moon (trade value £1700) and Heuer Autavia ref. 2446C (trade value £1500) for a Rolex Submariner ref. 1680 and I paid £600 extra😵‍💫👎🙄
But that was back then. Since then both watches I traded went sky high while Sub is not near that steep curve.
From time to time I do think OMG especially as I had to fight for a higher trade value of the especially Autavia 🤦

I was in a Tourneau about 7 years ago and they had what was probably a mid-80s speedmaster on the pre-owned shelf for $1100. I seriously considered buying it (and seriously kicked myself ever after for not having bought it). I don't really know what year it was - that was long before I knew anything about the various models. But it definitely wasn't new.

Should Have, Would Have, Could have :whipped:

Me, I'm going Back to the Future and hang out at the Hill Valley Omega Dealer for a couple of years.
Btw, what day in 1957 did the 2915-1 come out? ::psy::

The recent series 11.22.63 has a character whom goes back in time and buys meat at cheap prices to bring to the future. Of things I could think of to bring from the past to the future, hamburger is pretty low on the list, even if it is only $.15 a pound. As I pointed out on another forum, vintage watches with all paperwork would be by far the most valuable and easily transportable item from the past to the future.

If it has to be a physical good, then you may be right. However, I'd think a brokerage account with a bunch of shares of stock, or even a savings account started in the late 1950s, would be even easier as you wouldn't have to transport a thing.

Hell, don't even go as far back as the 1950s - take yourself to the 1990s and give Larry Page and Sergey Brin a couple thousand dollars for a piece of their weird little startup!

I'd go back only 13 years and develop facebook, instagram and whatsapp.

Lovely!

See that would require doing something, rather than just buying (or buying into) something for cheap. I'm not much of a software engineer, but I could scrounge up $10k to buy a decent stake in pre-VC Google (well, more like pre-pre-pre-pre-VC Google but still)

I bought my 1st new watch, summer of 1970, in the Paris airport duty free shop, a 145.022-69 Omega Speedmaster for $200. I still have the watch, original bracelet, and original box. I will post pictures later. I bought a Speedmaster because my father had one that he wore. He was a US Naval Reserve pilot, rank of Commander and the Commander of Air Group 20 (CAG 20) which was an ASW squadron.

Till you come back to find that they spent the money you gave them on a big projection tv and video games and never got around to improving the code and Ask Jeeves is the number one search engine now. 😜

Nah, these threads don't upset me at all. As for my patented response, I'm just countering the amount of silly Speedmaster recommendations I've seen over the years.

OP: "Hey WUS / ΩF / WTF / TZ members, I'm at an impasse in choosing out my next dress watch. I'm stuck between the GO Senator and UN Classico and don't know which one to pick."

Speedmaster dummkopf: "Have you considered a Speedmaster on a rally strap?"

🤦 🙄

According to my unofficial count, I still have a long way to go before I even the score. 😁 😜 ::stirthepot::

Thanks for countering stupidity (mostly on other forums) with even greater stupidity. I think you have more than evened the score for Omega forums, so if you need to even the score for those other places, make up more accounts at those places and go spam them instead thanks.

Respectfully....

Al
