I am a little suspicious about one of these and would like the opinion of the forum. Examples are labelled A, B, C and D. What is the consensus? Is one or both original or re-lumes. Please post your opinions ... A B C D
for me the first one (A and B) is original, the second one probably as well but simply less well preserved (but I am a little less sure). Never the less if they are relumes they are excellent jobs, for some reason I am not that much concerned with very well executed relumes, if they are done in an excellent way and faithful to the original. I much prefer an excellent relume to a badly aged tritium/radium. But this is clearly my own opinion.
I agree with you. My opinion is that a very well executed relume, with the right color and shape, does not have effect on the value of the watch, for small lume plots. It's a different problem when all the numbers or hands are relumed, because the shape can't be exactly the same os original. C seems to be relumed to me
I agree with both of the responses. Albeit good, I think the relume is A and B. Here is a shot of 12 o'clock markers. UG's lume of dials was very conservative. Lume was not applied by hand, it was applied with a cliche. The result is a very subtle and even lume. Here is an original dial : The lume shape is a perfect square. Sample A and B, looks to be bulging or too much and does not follow the contour of the hour index. I am probably picking nits as they are both excellent ... trying to kill time !
What's the furthest you've flown in your plane? Assume the EU has made it easier to "hopscotch" from field to field?
Corsica (via St. Omer,Troyes, St.Etianne, Montpellier, Calvi) ... Went to see my mum ! Longest journey across the water (a full hour). 9 hours from Home. It is scary losing sight of land .... Yikes !
