    Recently saw this posted on Hodinkee and would love to get my hands on one but don't know where to start...any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Would be difficult to say much only from 1 picture, but I think it is from the 1940's and likely to house a movement from the cal. 30 series.
    Any additional images would be helpful.

    But I haven't seen a black dial from that period that looks so glossy.

    Ben mentioned it was a very large size from memory like a 38-39mm

    There's practically zero chance that an original dial would ever present as that glossy and deep black.

    even if it was hidden in a drawer for 70 years, it would still look more like the dial which hoipolloi posted (to the naked eye).

    so my guess is redial or photochop.
