I really think that dealers which have watches relumed and do not state it are huge sc*mbags. ::censored::
Even if it's a good job, I want to know whether the watch I'm buying is really original or if it has been redone by a dude in a shed somewhere between Rimini and Rome....

The vintage collecting world is such a minefield. Thank goodness for OF’s sales forum and OF in general.

    Thanks for sharing @SgWatchBaron

Thanks for the warning. There are also a lot of seamasters on eBay with actually almost everything other than the movement replaced.

They come with the replacement case no. 166.0324,

These are what we usually refer to as Watchco SM300s. Most of them were built by Watchco but other watchmakers have also built them and there are a lot of owners on here. You can wear these and get the vintage feel without worrying about damaging a one off vintage watch. The movements virtually never started out in SM300s though. Some of the descriptions are a bit loose in defining what they really are! I'm not saying they are trying to imply that they are vintage but ...

Here's two I built for myself.

@ChrisN big up for building your own watches  that sounds like a cool project. Where did you get the parts for it?

so the opinion on Watchco SM300s are rather positive on OF?

Think you just should know what you get. Some eBay offers imply that its vintage which is obviously not 100% correct. They also have superluminova instead of tritium, right?

As long as there is full disclosure of what it is.
Trying to push one as a full vintage watch: :whipped:

I'm a watchmaker so no issues for me:D. You can still buy the parts on the open market (at least for the 565 with date) but, the total is over £1900 (I'm in UK so if you're in Europe, the exchange rate is good for you at the moment:(). Add on another £500-600 for the movement, service and assembly and they're not cheap! Five years ago, they were about 60% of this cost. Unfortunately, no tritium dials are available these days.

I think the general opinion on these is positive, if you search on here for Watchco, as the vintage ones have become very expensive now. I still prefer vintage but will probably never have a sixties SM300 - plenty of other watches though.:D

    Cheers, Chris

Ok, fair enough. Big like

with this price you can almost for the new Seamaster 300 1957 Limited which I did (with the argument for me that its a nice vintage style with the Quality of a new watch). I know this is probably highly debated as well :)

The vintage ones are nice - there is a seller around my work (as there are plenty over here) who had 4 (!) Seamaster 300 from the 60ies in stock. Pricing between 12,5 and 16k EUR. Too much :(
