Hi all,

Up for sale today is my Rolex Air-King ref 5500 in stainless steel. This is an uncommon Super Precision variant with the automatic caliber 1530 and beautiful alpha hands which in my opinion are such a quintessential design trait of this era. The lume on the dial and hands is original and has aged to a nice, creamy color. The movement was also given a partial service by my watchmaker this summer and is running well.

Condition: This example is in good vintage condition. The classic silver sunburst dial is very clean. The case appears thick but has probably seen some polishing over the years. As expected of a 55+ year old watch, there are hairline scratches and the hands do show some oxidation. Nothing excessive though and presents well on the wrist. The caseback has a faint inscription and a couple more noticeable scratches. The caliber 1530 runs smoothly and keeps time within 7-8 seconds/day. Ref and serial # are clearly legible on the case.

Additional Information:
Size: 34mm without crown, 19mm lug width
Serial: 893,xxx
Year: 1963
Caliber: Automatic, cal 1530
Box/papers: No/No
Strap: Brown suede

I’m asking $2975 USD which will also include express shipping within CONUS. Other countries at cost. Paypal, Zelle, Transferwise or bank wire only. Watch and I are in the US and I can ship worldwide (with some exceptions).

Plenty of references available upon request. Thanks!

I hear ya. They made this reference for 30+ years. But not many Super Precisions. It's one of those "if you know you know" type of things.

How is this still here?
Not sure really. It’s an honest piece, an uncommon variant and with known service history.

I think this is the best Rolex there is, and really the only one I would consider owning. It s a nice example.
Unfortunately I am not buying at this point. Can you enlighten me about the purple elements of the movement?

I believe those are the reversing wheels of the movement.
