·On offer from my personal collection is an Accurist Super Waterproof 400 chronograph dating to the early 1960s. The entire watch is all original, keeping good time, and in excellent condition. All steel.
This is the jumbo 39mm version, which has a commanding wrist presence.
19mm lugs.
Dial: Deep black with crisp white lettering. Tachymetre is complemented by orange 24-hr. numerals. Lume on square indices has a lovely orange patina. Minute subdial has an orange regatta timer, which creates a nice effect with the lume of nearly the same shade. Minute baton has some minor lume loss near pivot, but lume on both batons appears stable overall. Absolutely minimal wear and no fading on the dial--I've provided pix at different angles to demonstrate this, since the original crystal has a few marks (as described below).
Case: Sharp, unpolished case in very good condition. This is the classic Ref. 2002 case also seen on the Jenny Caribbean and other famed dive watches from the period. Caseback has a couple of scratches, presumably from an aspiring case-opener with more enthusiasm than sense (see pix), but lettering is razor sharp.
Bezel: The black bakelite bezel is a real highlight. In flawless condition, with classic 60s digital-style numbering. Rotates smoothly and stays in position.
Crown and Pushers: All original, screw-down crown. Original pushers in fine fettle.
Movement: Landeron 51 movement. Very clean with intact gasket. Keeping good time and chrono resets exactly to zero. Service history unknown, but previous owner took good care of it, it would seem.
Crystal: Original crystal, one wear mark at 3 o'clock, and a scratch at 9 o'clock, but otherwise in good shape. The minor flaws could be easily polished out (I ran out of polywatch).
Comes on a new Zulu 5-ring strap, which complements it nicely.
Purchased from original owner in February 2022 and worn sparingly since. Selling to cover crucial dental work for my pet rhinoceros, Horny McHornerson.
