We have all learnt different lessons when buying vintage. I know I have.

Me too! My first old Seamaster was purchased on a whim and I could have had a much better preserved specimen, had I bothered to do my research first. I suspect it was a good bit more expensive than the OPs as well 馃う

It's amazing how many sellers (unwittingly?) claim that a watch is "all original"...

I know what you mean. My first seamaster was all original but had an over polished case, purchased from one of London's most reputable dealers. 99% of the time their watches have original dials, they always tell customers dials are redialled if they have been. People on the forum said the dial was original so did my watch maker. But people buying the watches are not like us because all the watches are original examples but they are all over polished.

If my uncle told me it was legit I'm going to believe that and help Auntie get a wheelchair ramp for her house with the proceeds.

Buyer beware. Mary in haste repent at leisure.

If the OP got it for a song, then he should be in fine shape. If it runs well, wear it as a beater, have it professionally redialed by someone other than Helen Keller, or look for a donor dial.

On the wrist, from a few feet away, it will look great.

We have all been there, asking the question, "so how much you want?", and then impulse buying it on the spot.

If I saw it for under $150, I would have hopped on it like white on rice.

The original dial looks like this. I guess.

An original dial if ever I saw one. Crisp fonts and nice markers and everything else.
