Red Flake Datejust?

So, this is a 1970 1603 black dial datejust, which is apparently a varient in which the black paint has started to degrade into a bunch of small red flakes (this is not visible in these photos). Price on this is high for a datejust so am curious what people think of these. Never heard of such a thing ...

Sellers do everything they can to claim that defects are premium. Especially on vintage Rolex. Walk away.

Are you referring to the confetti dial? If so, it’s not a damaged dial, and is rare and valuable (to collectors).

This is not degrading over time, it a default on the paint of the dial. It's a very nice one, but personally I would pay too much premium.

Was confetti dial a real thing?

The thing that got this for me, actually, was the sleeve polish. I've decided I hate sleeve polished watches, can't stand it.

I know it’s a thing, I don’t honestly know if they left the factory that way by design.
