Don't blame you - I just got home from dinner and was thinking of making an offer.

Another UFO... not quite so nice... but it helps confirm the date wheel as legit:

In general, I wouldn't use that Franken-Meister's watches as a reference, but I agree with you in this case.

Yes, in and of itself not the sturdiest datum... but now I know of three with white date wheels and none with other colors.

I think Dennis is the only one here with wrists strong enough to manage that. :cautious:

For those outside the US & willing to forgo PayPal, there's a "NOS" A792 that just popped up on the German eBay site. Price is a little high and most of the ads/catalogs I've seen show it on a GF bracelet, but it looks to be a very nice example (and has an English day wheel).

The same seller also has an A791, which should also be on a GF bracelet.

Watch out for the servicing costs on those 405s/408s. They have one of those barrels that are not supposed to be opened so a new mainspring means a complete barrel, priced at an eye watering £130 plus VAT.

I find this one strangely compelling, but I'm not sure about the gold hands and hour markers. And I doubt that the original movement was a 2562pc, as they usually have "28800" plastered on the dial... probably a 2552pc... unless it's a redial, though I think the dial paint is legit. The best thing about it is probably the NSA bracelet.

I agree the dial is good - fits too well among the many Zenith watches with graded 'smoke' colored dials. I think the hands are replacements, and I agree with you about the movement - Zenith rarely missed a chance to crow about the 2562. The price is wildly optimistic though, and I wouldn't encourage the seller in this sort of delusion. Incidentally, either there are more vintage Zenith specialists per capita in Turkey than in any other country, or this enesefe fellow sells under about a half-dozen other names.

And if it is legitimate, this one looks like a good price for a "buy it now".

They normally sell between £1,900 and £2,300.

He's also got it listed as an auction starting at £1,650 and only 4 items below a search for UK Only and newest listing.

He may just need the cash quickly or I may just be gnarled and cynical, but if it smells of fish.....
