Anyone fancy this one? I've been watching it slowly burn down. Lots of interested parties. https://www.ebay.com/itm/313245009468
Man! I wish this wasn't listed on here. I think it caused more of a spotlight. I was hoping to snag for under $100. But it shows me there is definitely some snipers on here lol. Nice find.

Redial

I’ve been thinking about this - not to buy though - because I already have a 166.010.

I’m not sure if I have any problem with it being a redial - I like Omegas, I’m keen on 565 and 552 movements, and if it’s a redial, my enjoyment of it would not be shared by a percentage of the OF membership but - and arguably - so what?

Every so often, we have this debate - what’s the problem with restoring a nice watch that’s got a damaged dial or case? This was regularly done in the 40s/50s/60s.

If I owned a ‘classic car', no one would have a problem with it being restored to its original condition.

The Omega 166.010 is a classic watch. If it was still made, I’d buy a new one. If Omega did a heritage version (as Longines does) I’d buy one - but they don’t, so I can’t.

I certainly wouldn’t buy it (other than for spares) if it had patina which made it look like an overcooked pizza or creme brûlée. So, give me a redial.

Each to his own but as you stated in your first post "I don’t think it’s a bad price for a reasonable watch" I disagree since its a redial and that makes in fact a bad price for that particular watch IMO.
For that kind of money you should be able to get a very nice original 166.010 and therefore its a no-brainer for me, but just my personal opinion of course.

And, of course, I’m happy for us to share a different perspective on vintage watches - the watches you post are particularly nice.

That said, and taking the 166.010 as a case in point, I wish I could shop where you shop.

On most of the websites that I look at, nice 166.010 (non-chronometer) are generally two to three times the price of this one. Another OF member @Hnansen has been posting since February and bumping his search for a nice original

So, for 'that kind of money', where do you suggest I look 😀

Ahhhh sorry about that. Don't worry, many more bargains to be had. I try to post buy now rather than auction as we enjoy instant gratification here. Especially when another member say they snag it 😁

I'm not saying I know where you can find them for that money but they can be found with patience and a bit of luck I guess.
It is a nice example on Swedish auction site Tradera ending in 3 days currenctly on 367GBP but says in the description it probably will need a service, maybe it wont end to expensive even with the service included.

Also posted in @Hnansen WTB-thread there was an ebay auction that ended at 735GBP

Thats at least in that price area I'm talking about.
Maybe a nice example for 500GBP BIN is hard to find but I would much rather spend a couple of 100 more for an original example 😀

Super cool Waltham. Lovely dial. https://www.ebay.com/itm/264898327461
This is a cool watch USA movement that probably just needs a CLA as it's sat for so long (probably gummy oil/grease), original strap- I have no doubt this is NOS. Will also bet the 37.5mm is lug-lug, not width which is probably around 32mm

Beat up non running Bulova Ordnance Dept watch.
Bidding still very low, worth a look.

These were abundant from Bulova and Elgin and decent ones pop up for reasonable money- they are worth waiting for. They almost always have radium burn (white dial), but running and in nice shape can be had for under $200.
Here is mine

Something like this is going to be like a 350 dollar watch after a service... Hmm is that worth it?

the watch has more problems other than needing a service. the bezel looks like base metal and is fried. there's no getting around that ugliness, unless it's only dirt. there also seems to be a little pitting on the case back, although it's not seen or that problematic. $350 should get you a better skin diver. but if anyone ever wanted a baylor thunderbird here's your chance
