Thanks to the cat who pointed out this one. Arrived the other day. Case and hands/furniture are different shades of gold.

It is really nice! I was tempted by it when it was first recommended.

Congrats!

So was I, but the fact that I am in Australia put me off. When I saw the end price I kicked myself.

Not gonna lie, I almost threw a last second bid for the Tissot. Looks like I should have. Looks fantastic.

I love this Wittnauer diver with steel case 😀but has date

$1.7K for that? Although it's in really nice shape (unoriginal crown?), that seems steep, aren't those comping for $600-800?

Project watch alert! 👍 Looking for a nice tropical brown dial in a steel case? Want a color that is slightly brown but not quite toast? This one is for you!

s-l1600.jpg

To be sure, this 1958 Seastar has been "rode hard and put away wet," to use an expression. The watch definitely needs a service: the description says "Movement is running very but the set lever needs to be replaced." The steel case is battered and bruised, but the hands are original and correct. The crown has been replaced. Who knows what else needs work inside...but fortunately, the in-house caliber 28.5R-21 is rugged and reliable, and Tissot made a lot of them so parts and part donor movements are readily available on eBay.

All this is reflected in the BIN price: Only $78.

I'm not a tropical dial fanboy but looking at that Tissot makes me question my patinal orientation.

…. and it’s gone
Yup. $78 for an early Seaster….someone could have pooped on the dial and it still would have sold for that

It'll ‘spruce' up 😉

….. but it wasn’t me who bought it.

And for the brave Tropical Dial ++++ Vintage Longines from Brazil - auction with huge postage. Dial might need a triple rinse. If I was Brazilian or just visiting some hot gf - I’d have a go but I’m not so ………

Damn you JW!! (said with much respect...but the timing sucks considering the outward flow of funds lately!)

The first watch that pulled me in to vintage was a bullseye...unfortunately it turned out to be a newbie tax, because I had no idea that/what a redial meant. I liked the look, I took the dive, and as I've since learned from this bunch of misfits, I've since realized I was duped. One of many lessons learned (and the education is ongoing, of course).

@cineaste, nice piece...let's have some haggling fun for shits and grins!
