Send it back

Not that easy as the seller is in the US and I'm in Europe, and eBay isn't helping at all. Will probably have it fixed locally and try to get the seller pay (part of) the bill, and close that chapter.

Well, it’s actually a pretty watch and once you’ve got it sorted, it’ll be a pleasure to wear

This is just the plain ‘ole Waltham, not the BP supplied era. Sellers have been trying to flog that connection for years to jack up the perceived value of very ordinary watches. The same thing happens with Sicura and Breitling- yes, there was an ownership connection- but very different companies.
Although that Waltham is a nice stainless skin diver, it’s worth about $250.

There was a period in the late 50’s when Waltham was a distributor the BP watches. They look like these

The dial style and Bakelite bezel is usually the give away. Some were branded Blancpain on the back, some not- but they all have this “look”. The later skin diver style with metal bezels and simpler dials have no BP connection.

There have basically been dissertations written on this period of BP/Rayeville/Waltham/Squale and the “real” diver watches (not those Rolex posers)- and let’s remember that Zodiac beat Rolex to the diver watch with the Seawolf (my not so subtle dig).
I know just enough to not get suckered but not enough to be an expert by any means.
Lots of good reading out there if you look up the history of the BP Fifty Fathom watch.
I just get twerked by sellers taking a very thin connection like BP/ Waltham, Sicura/Breitling, Sears Tradition/Heuer, and trying to inflate the prices of ordinary watches by preying on the ignorance of new collectors.

After seeing a member's Sicura today, I was browsing Ebay for that brand and saw this example of a racetrack dial in good shape compared to most in this price range on Ebay. 38mm. I know some might want a full stainless steel case but I liked the dial. Seller had a lot of details about the brand if you're curious. No relation to the seller.

Great watch. Very 70s. Love the curtain pattern around the dial edge

1968 Benrus 3818B military watch. This is the real one. A year ago I would have said this was way overpriced, but seeing how the market has shifted, I hate to say it, but this may be right on. The reason I post this is the age old reason collectors pay a premium- condition, condition, condition. Although the pics suck, you can see how bright yellow all the lume is- hands, dial, even second hand. Rarely are they this fresh looking.

Good detailed description. But ........ ?

It’s an honest example, it is indeed early based on the movement (second gen). Dial is in excellent shape actually, hands have been relumed but those can be easily matched to the dial (these didn’t have the mix&match lume like most divers- the hands are always close to the dial color be them green or yellow). The plated bezel is worn as we normally see. Bracelet has the correct era clasp but it’s not the correct factory bracelet- it would have had fitted endlinks and the brick&bead style is not common to the Seawolf- perhaps from a Super? Or maybe just an aftermarket period correct bracelet with a zodiac clasp.
Price is high for US market by about 40%, but Brit market is different of course.
